Current problem
Some of the not proven systems are
developed ,to detect the FH signals with a
reasonable success rate.
Today development of low cost Frequency
Hopping wireless modules is easy but
effective interception algorithms are not up
to mark.
Proposed Solution
New methods based on image processing
are used for FH signal interception.
Methods are proposed to extract the
parameters of frequency hopping (FH)
signals based on the spectrogram obtained
by short-time Fourier transform (STFT).
Project Goal
To extract the parameters of frequency
hopping (FH) signals based on the
spectrogram obtained by Short-time
Fourier transform (STFT).
The spectrogram analysis will be used to
detect and extract FH parameters by
useful image processing techniques.

FHSS Concepts
Frequency-hopping spread spectrum is a
form of spread spectrum in which the signal
is broadcast over a random series of radio
frequencies, hopping from frequency to
frequency at fixed intervals.
 It has become the leading communication
technology because of the superior anti-
jamming and anti-interception capability.
Time-Frequency Analysis
Short-Term Fourier Transform

Short time Fourier transform (STFT) is a

simple and effective method which widely
used in non-stationary signals.
STFT is chosen to preprocess the broadband
received signal. The time-frequency spectrum
of the signal as:
Spectrogram
It is a time-varying spectral
representation (forming an image) that
shows how the spectral density of a signal
varies with time.
Spectrogram of a signal s(t) is the
squared magnitude of the STFT of the
signal
 spectrogram{x(t)} = |X(T,W)|2
Image Processing
 The amplitude of time-frequency
spectrum as image.
The spectrogram image is enhanced by
contrast stretch.
Contrast stretching is a simple image
enhancement technique that improves the
contrast in an image by ‘stretching’ the
range of intensity values it contains to
span a desired range of values.

Applications

In military and police search operations

there is great requirement.
Advantages

Low complex algorithm compared to

Wavelet transform based techniques.

Easy to implement in hardware.

Disadvantages

Sensitive to background noise.

 Complete image need to be formed

before detecting the hopper parameters.
Future Scope

Detecting multiple frequency hopping

signals.

Implementing this algorithm in FPGA

hardware
