Learning Strategies including
Integrated Project for
Academic Excellence &
Student Progression

1
Agenda ASET

• Learning Pyramid
• Project based learning
• Concept of Integrated Project
• Implementation and assessment of integrated project.

2
Learning Pyramid ASET

The Learning Pyramid model

suggests that some study methods
are more effective than others and
that varying study methods will lead
to deeper learning and longer-term
retention.

Practice by doing, a form of “Discover Learning”, is one of
the most effective methods of learning and study.

Project Based Learning

• Project-based education is an instructional

approach that seeks to
– contextualise learning by involving learners in
projects rather than in isolated activities
targeting specific skills.
– Here the students will be given contextual situations
– Asked to define the problem,
– They have to decide what skills and resources are
necessary to investigate the problem,
– Then pose possible solutions
Project Based Learning ASET

PBL is a learning strategy where problems are introduced

at the beginning of the instruction cycle to provide the
context and motivation for learning. It
is always active and usually collaborative or
cooperative. PBL typically involves significant
amounts of self-directed learning. Some evidence shows
that PBL develops enhanced problem-solving skills and
that these skills can be improved further by coupling
PBL with explicit instruction in problem solving.

Project Based Learning ASET

• In Instruction led learning content is

organized by themes that relate and
contextualized material to be learned
however, project-based learning presents
learners with a problem to solve or a
product to produce.

• They must then plan and execute activities

to achieve their objectives.

• Let Students to be creative, think outside

the box, use different media, and more than
anything truly create a product

• Meets the needs of learners with varying

skill levels and learning styles.

Problem-Based Learning causes a shift in roles...

Teacher as coach Student as active problem- Problem as initial challenge and
solver motivation

Models/coaches/fades in: Student as active problem- Problem as initial challenge

• Asking about thinking solver: and motivation to attention:
• Monitoring learning • Active participant • Ill-structured
• Probing/ challenging • Engaged • Appeals to human desire
students' thinking • Constructing meaning for resolution
• Keeping students involved • Sets up need for and
• Monitoring/ adjusting levels context of learning which
of challenge follows
• Managing group dynamics
• Keeping process moving

Introduction to Project Integrated Learning
ASET

Objective is to integrate the Project based learning with traditional

instruction led learning

An integrated project would be assigned to students considering all the

courses undertaken by students in a particular semester.

The internal assessment component for assessing the Integrated project

has been introduced in courses where the students obtain credits for self-
work and in some programming/ lab-based courses as well.

ASET

Process All students are required to complete one

integrated project that should encompass
learning of the subjects studied in this semester
Adopted
A committee will be constituted by all faculty
members teaching that semester.

The project topic will be approved by this

committee

The project should reflect that student has

attained the course learning outcome of all
subjects they studied in the semester
Evaluation of the ASET

project
• The evaluation of this project will be
internal
• Marks are allocated in all subjects'
student will be studying in the
semester.
• This project will be evaluated by
committee
• Regular monitoring of the project
will be done
• The student need to map the
learning of the subjects with the
integrated project.
