The document discusses evaluating the performance of ad-hoc networks. It defines ad-hoc networks as decentralized wireless networks that are self-organizing and can form a communication network without infrastructure. Key characteristics include multi-hop transmission, self-organization, energy conservation, and mobility. Performance will be evaluated based on parameters like transmission ability, packet forwarding rate, and optimal routing. The simulation will use the AODV routing protocol with 10 mobile nodes moving at 10m/s over a 200s period in a 200m x 300m region.

1. State Goals and Define the System

2. Ad-hoc Networks Characteristics 3. Advantages and disadvantages 4. Performance evaluation

Ad-hoc networks are decentralized of wireless network, self-organizing networks capable of forming a communication network without relying on any xed infrastructure.
Ad-hoc networks allow for multi-hop transmission of data between nodes outside the direct radio reach of each other.

Check parameters for performance evaluation:

Transmittance

ability

The

rate of forwarding packet routing

Optimal

Multihopping: a multihop network is a network where the path from source to destination traverses several other nodes
Self-organization: the ad-hoc network must autonomously determine its own configuration parameters including: addressing, routing, power control,...

Energy conservation: most ad hoc nodes (e.g., laptops, sensors, etc.) have limited power supply and no capability to generate their own power.
Mobility: nodes can be rapidly repositioned and have the same role, structure of network is temporary.

Ad-hoc network has high mobility

Ability for infrastructure-less setup, minimal or no reliance on network planning and the ability of the nodes to self-organize and selfconfigure without the involvement of a centralized network manager, router, access point or a switch.

Quality of service Energy efficiency Security

Services: Protocol: AODV Share datas such as: messages files,...

Outcomes: Evaluate: The rate of forwarding packet, the rate of lost packet

Speed: throughput, bandwidth, and delay

Accuracy: error rate, the rate of forwarding packet, and lost packet. Availability: data sent and arrived, energy consumtion. Predictability: direction of movement, pattern of movement
