man shall leave his father and mother
and be joined to his wife, and the two

wife as himself, and let the wife see that
she respects her husband."
We need others physically, emotionally,
intellectually; we need them if we are
to know anything, even ourselves."

Purpose of Marriage in the Bible
(Fruitfulness)
"Then God blessed them, and God said
to them,
'Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth
and subdue it; have dominion over the
fish of the sea, over the birds of the
air, and over every living thing that
moves on the earth.'"
Purpose of Marriage in the Bible
(Encouragement & Accountability)
Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 - "Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor.
For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he
has no one to help him up. Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm; but how can
one be warm alone? Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And
a threefold cord is not quickly broken."
Purpose of Marriage in the Bible
(Protection & Goodwill)
Ephesians 5:25-27 - "Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave
Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word,
that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such
thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish."
Commands of Marriage in the Bible
Exodus 20:14 - "You shall not commit adultery."
Commands of Marriage in the Bible
1 Corinthians 7:3-5 - "Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also
the wife to her husband. The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband
does. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does.
Do not deprive one another except with consent for a time, that you may give yourselves to
fasting and prayer; and come together again so that Satan does not tempt you because of your
lack of self-control."
Commands of Marriage in the Bible
Ephesians 5:22-25 - "Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is
head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body.
Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in
everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for
her."
