Unit 1: Speaking Part 2
If you want your talk to be coherent convincing and engaging,
it is important that you link your ideas well.

What does it mean when we say “link ideas”?


 It’s how we put our thoughts as a whole.

Why is it important to link our ideas?


 To express coherently
 To see the connection between the ideas
Ways to Link Ideas
using conjunctions

repeating key words or phrases
using pronouns to refer to ideas

Ways to Link Ideas
 using conjunctions
-is a word that connects two words, clauses or sentences to
show their relationship.
-Example
 emphasizing ideas
-refers to the act of giving special importance or
prominence to specific words or phrases within a sentence
- adding stress emphasizes your idea

1. He isn’t flying to London tomorrow.


2. He isn’t flying to London tomorrow.
3. He isn’t flying to London tomorrow.
Activity 1:
Answer the task card on Page 10. Write
your answers on a piece of paper. DO
NOT to use linking words and synonyms
when you repeat your ideas.

Activity 2:
Check your classmate’s answer by adding
linking words as well as use synonyms for
the redundant words.

Activity 3:
After returning your paper, check if your
classmate used the correct linking words
and vocabulary. Lastly, rewrite your
answers if you wish to do some revisions
before you speak.
This activity is called correcting
someone’s mistake.
