DEPARTMENT OF
MATHEMATICS
Modern teaching methods promote engagement, active learning, and
motivation among students. These methods can enhance creativity,
imagination, and innovation among students. They can assist students in
developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Problem based learning

Problem-based learning (PBL) is a student-

centered approach in which students learn about a
subject by working in groups to solve an open-
ended problem.

The term “problem-based learning” was coined in 1974

by Howard Barrows, a leading figure at McMaster
University Medical School
Advantages of PBL

 Development of transferable Skills

 Development of Long-Term Knowledge Retention
 Motivates student in learning
 Helps students to face practical life problems
 Develops deeper understanding ,critical thinking
 Develops students responsibility for learning
Limitations of PBL

 PBL requires more time and takes away study time from other subjects.
 It creates some anxiety because learning is messier.
 Less content knowledge may be learned.
 Instructors requires more prep time
Collaborative learning

A collaborative (or cooperative) learning approach

involves pupils working together on activities or learning
tasks in a group small enough to ensure that everyone
participates. Pupils in the group may work on separate
tasks contributing to a common overall outcome, or work
together on a shared task.
Collaborative learning refers to a strategy
in which students of different performance levels
work together in small groups toward a common
goal.
Benifits of collaborative learning

 Improves problem-solving skills

 Encourages social interaction
 Improves communication skills
 Inspires creativity
 Creates trust
 Improves confidence
 Encourages engagement
 Develops critical-thinking skills
 Builds relationships

Pillers of flipped classroom
Blended classroom

 Blended learning, also known as hybrid learning, is an approach to education that combines online educational
materials and opportunities for interaction online with traditional place-based classroom method
 Blended learning is an approach to learning that combines face-to-face and online learning experience
USES

Support for student collaboration

Course accessibility
Learner convince
Rich learner assessment
Enhance learning
Increases flexibility
Experimental learning

 Experiential learning is the process of learning through experience, and is more

specifically defined as “learning through reflection on doing”. The first concept of
experiential learning was first explored by John Dewey and Jean Piaget.
CROSSOVER LEARNING
 Learning in informal settings, such as museums and after school clubs, can link
educational content with issues that matter to learner to lives.
LEARNING THROUGH ARGUMENTATION
Argumentation helps students attend to contrasting ideas, which can deep their learning.
 Students can advance their understanding of science and mathematics by arguing in ways
similar to professional scientistists and matheamticians.
INCIDENTAL LEARNING

Incidental learning is unplanned or unintentional learning

 It may occur while carrying out an activity that is seemingly unrelated to what is learned.
 CONTEXT BASED LEARNING
 Context enables us to learn from experience
 Interpreting new information in the context of where and when it occurs and relating it to
what we already know.
