* INTRODUCTION
Oil spills are a major ecological and environmental problem.
An oil spill is the release of a liquid petroleum hydrocarbon into the
environment.
Often the terms refers to marine oil spills, where oil spill is released into
the ocean or coastal waters.
The oil may be variety of materials, including crude oil, refined petroleum
products, or oil mixture in waste.
Unfortunately spills can take months or even years to clean up.
In this project, we will re-model an existing oil spill cleaning machine to
increase its efficiency and rate of recovered.

The oil sticks to the smooth inner and outer surfaces of the two
tubes.
The constantly rotating tubes pull the oil, which is like a film of the
water surface.
The oil transports to two strip-off lips per tube fastened inside and
outside of the surface.
With the collecting channels, the stripped off oil is lead to a pre
collection tank.
OPERATIO
N
The experiment was carried out by rotating the handle provided in the shaft.
As the disc rotates in the anti-clockwise direction, the oil from the water-oil
mixture rise up in the grooves.
Low viscous oils can also be recovered by proper selection of the dimension of
the groove.
As the groove thickness increases, it is suited for collecting high viscous oil.
As the groove thickness reduces, it is suitable for collecting low viscous oil.
Here we used a thicker one to high viscous oil from the mixture.

Using more shallow and narrow groves for light diesel and fuel
oil and deeper and more open grooves for heavier oils may lead
to higher recovery efficiency.
