Purpose: Subject Enrichment Activity What is teeth? 1. Teeth is an organ that helps you to chew the food, assist you while talking and makes you more beautiful. 2. Milk teeth grow during infancy and fall off between the age of 6 to 8 years, now it replaces with the set of permanent teeth. 3. Maintaining teeth can be managed by using toothbrush, dental floss etc. Working of Incisors 1. The four front teeth in both the upper and lower jaws are called incisors. Their primary function is to cut food. 2. The two incisors on either side of the midline are known as central incisors. 3. The two adjacent teeth to the central incisors are known as the lateral incisors. Working of Canines 1. Canines are effectively the corners of the mouth and perform the function of ripping and tearing food. 2. Canines have the longest root of any tooth and come to a single, pointy cusp. Working of Premolars and Molars
1. Premolars, also known as bicuspids, are the permanent teeth located
between the molars in the back of your mouth and your canine teeth, or cuspids, located in the front. 2. Because premolars are transitional teeth, they display features of both molars and canines and primarily grind and break up food. How cavities form? 1. Cavities form if the pH in mouth is less than the critical pH, that is 5.5. 2. Cavities also form when acids in the mouth wear down, or erode, a tooth's hard outer layer (enamel). 3. These are caused by a combination of factors, including bacteria in your mouth, frequent snacking, sipping sugary drinks and not cleaning your teeth well. How to prevent cavities? 1. Brush with fluoride toothpaste after eating or drinking. 2. Rinse your mouth. 3. Visit your dentist regularly. 4. Consider dental sealants. 5. Drink some tap water. 6. Avoid frequent snacking and sipping. 7. Eat tooth-healthy foods. 8. Consider fluoride treatments.
