INTRODUCTION
• Anita Nair was born on 26 January 1996 in Shoranur, kerala, India.

• She is a Hindu, though she is secular and has brought about tales from Quran for children’s and

believes in teaching children to not be scared of Islam.

• Nair is an Indian novelist who made her mark by not conforming to the prevalent trends in

Indian English literature.

• She did her B.A in English language and literature at NSS College Higher Educational Institution

, Ottapalam, Kerala .

• She has tried hard to become the voice of true feminism in the contemporary Indian English

literature.
EARLY LIFE AND EDUCATION :

• Anita Nair was born on 26 January 1996 in Kerala. She went to Chennai for early education

then returned to Kerala to obtained graduate degree in English Language and Literature.

• She started her writing journey when she was working in an Advertising Agency as a
Creative Head .

• She published her collection of short stories that her made her famous helped her to
receive a fellowship from Virginia Centre.

• That incident changed her life and she turned to be full time Novelist .

• After that she became as a Novelist in India as well as abroad.


CAREER
• Anita Nair was working as the creative director of an advertising agency in Banglore.

• She wrote her first book called satyr of the subway which she sold to Har-Anand press.

• The Book won her a fellowship from the Virginia Center for the creative arts.

• Nair`s second book was published by Penguin India and was the first book by an Indian author

to be published by Picardor USA.

• She has also written several audiobooks including A Field of flowers(2021) and Little duck girl

narrated by Prakash Raj.


CAREER
• In January 2022 Anita Nair was interviewed for the podcast. The literary city with Ramajee

chandran.

• She also written poems. Her poems “Happenings in the London underground” was published

by the poetry society in India.

• Her works has been translated into many more languages like French, German, Italian,

Dutch.

• Her latest audio story “why I killed my husband” is the last story of her story collection

named (satyr of subway).

LADIES COUPE
“What is it about marriage that makes it possible for a man
and a woman to mesh their lives ,dreams and even their
thought in such a complete fashion?”

Ladies coupe is the story of six women traveling together in a


ladies coupe of an Indian railway train. Each sharing their life
stories.

45 years –old Akhil Andeshwari Aka Akhila, an income tax


office clerk and sole bread winner for her family, boards a
train for a chance of liberation and freedom.

She is searching for answer to her life`s purpose. When she


meets five other women ,all from different walks of life, and
hear their stories ,her thoughts take her back to the past.
THE BETTER MAN
The better man is Anita Nair`s first novel that revolves around
MUKUNDAN`S. A fifty-two-year-old retired government
employee who returns to his village in Kerala.

He is still haunted by his past – the expectations laid down by


his domineering father who has bullied him through his
childhood and beyond.

MUKUNDAN`S aim in life is to prove his mettle to his father,


who still holds power over him.

There are lots of interesting characters in this book and


unlike women –centric themes. This book as a male
protagonist.

• Arch of excellence award by the all India achievers conference, new Delhi for
literature.
• 2007 Liberaturpreis, finalist, Germany.
• 2008 FLO FICCI women achievers award, for literature.
• 2012 Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for her contribution to literature and culture.
• 2014 the Hindu Literary Prize short list for Idris Keeper Of The Light.
• 2015 Global Ambassador for women for expo may.
• 2017 Crossword Book Award, jury category for Children`s literature Muezza and
baby Jaan.
• 2020 UNHCR appointment as a high profile supporter.

CONCLUSION
• Anita Nair is not like the usual contemporary Indian Novelist who writes for cheap
popularity by comprising with language and plot and most importantly , by managing
the depth of the theme according to the ‘Market Policies’.

• She writes because she has to and whether its her agenda behind a feminist fiction or
her character’s Enigma.

• Her novel may be problematic in terms of one- eye-sightedness at times.

• Though with the use of contemporary language she tries to connect with the
contemporary readers, that is still something which does not seem happening as it
happens with Chetan bhagat.
