Course Objectives
• Enable the students to:
• Understand the basic concepts of iot and device connectivity.
• Acquire knowledge in real time data logging and data analytics on cloud.
• Explore the potential areas utilizing embedded controllers/processors in real
time systems.

• Understand the concept of Internet of Things along with its hardware and
software components.
• Recognize I/O devices, sensors & communication modules.
• Apply techniques for remote data monitoring and device control.
• Compare the connectivity technologies and protocols in iot.
• Infer iot applications and case studies.
• Create practical iot projects for real - world applications
Module 1: Introduction to Internet of Things
(7 Hours)
• Content: This module covers the basic understanding of the Internet
of Things (IoT), its origin, and its impact. It discusses the challenges in
IoT, various IoT architectures, and the driving factors behind these
architectures. It also compares different IoT architectures and
presents a simplified IoT architecture.
• Purpose: To provide a foundational understanding of what IoT is and
the various architectural frameworks involved.
Module 2: IoT Functional Stack (7 Hours)
• Content: This module introduces the core functional stack of IoT,
focusing on data management and computing. It explores concepts
like Fog Computing and Edge Computing and their hierarchical
structure.
• Purpose: To educate students on the layered architecture of IoT
systems and the role of computing at different levels of the stack.
Module 3: The Things in IoT (7 Hours)

• Content: This module focuses on the components that constitute IoT


systems, such as sensors, actuators, and smart objects. It covers
sensor networks, wireless sensor networks, and communication
protocols for these networks, along with the connectivity of smart
objects.
• Purpose: To familiarize students with the physical components of IoT
and how they interact and communicate within a network.
Module 4: IoT Protocols (8 Hours)
• Content: This module discusses the architecture of IoT systems using
mobile devices, the role of mobile technology in supporting IoT
ecosystems, and various infrastructure and service discovery
protocols. It also covers integration technologies and tools for IoT.
• Purpose: To provide knowledge on the communication protocols and
technologies that enable IoT ecosystems, particularly focusing on
mobile integration.
Module 5: IoT Hardware & Interfaces (8
Hours)
• Content: This module delves into the hardware aspects of IoT,
including the architecture and prototyping with Arduino and
Raspberry Pi. It covers programming these devices and interfacing
them with other components.
• Purpose: To give hands-on experience and understanding of IoT
hardware platforms and how to program and interface them for IoT
applications.
Module 6: IoT Applications (8 Hours)
• Content: This module explores specific applications of IoT across
various domains such as home automation, smart cities,
environmental monitoring, energy management, retail, logistics,
agriculture, industry, health, and lifestyle. It also includes case studies
like smart airports and smart healthcare.
• Purpose: To showcase the real-world applications of IoT and inspire
students to create practical IoT projects.
