ABSTRACT
• Concrete is the most common material used all over the world. Approximately millions of tons of
demolished concrete material are dumped as construction waste per year, this demolished material are
often dumped on the land and they are not reused for any purpose this affects the environment and fertility
of the land. Reusing the concrete in form of aggregate leads to environmental and economical benefits.
• The main aim is to study and to find at what percentage of replacement of recycled aggregates with
natural aggregate does not affect the properties of the concrete i.e. 0%, 30%, 40%, 60%. Workability
Compressive strength, flexure strength, tests will be carried out and compared with traditional concrete.
However, further investigations were highly recommended and should be carried out to understand more
mechanical properties.
• This project focuses on the possibility of the use of recycled aggregate concrete as structural material. For
that purpose, an experimental study of the shear behavior and strength of beams made with recycled
aggregate concrete will be studied.

Recycled aggregate concrete is a type of concrete that uses recycled materials as aggregates. Instead of
using natural aggregates like gravel or crushed stone, recycled aggregate concrete uses crushed concrete
from demolished structures.
The process involves collecting and crushing concrete from old structures, and then using it as an
aggregate in new concrete mixes. This approach not only reduces the demand for natural aggregates, but
helps to conserve natural resources, and reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills, promoting
sustainability.
Recycled aggregate concrete can have comparable strength and durability to conventional concrete when
properly designed and produced. Overall, recycled aggregate concrete is an environmentally friendly
alternative to conventional concrete that helps reduce the environmental impact of construction activities
while conserving natural resources.
EXTRACTING PROCESS
Environmental Benefits: It reduces the demand for natural aggregates, which helps conserve natural resources such as
gravel. Additionally, it reduces the amount of newly mined aggregates to be created, hence less evacuation of natural
resources.
Waste Reduction: By using recycled aggregate into concrete, it diverts waste from landfills. Construction and
demolition waste often make up a significant portion of landfill volume, so recycling this material reduces the strain on
landfill capacity and helps to reduce the waste.
Energy Savings: Producing recycled aggregate typically requires less energy compared to producing natural aggregate.
This is because recycling processes generally consume less energy than mining, processing, and transporting natural
aggregates.
Cost Savings: In some cases, using recycled aggregates can be more cost-effective than using natural aggregates,
especially in areas where natural aggregates are scarce or expensive to transport. Additionally, recycling materials from
demolition sites can save on disposal costs.
Comparable Performance: Recycled aggregate concrete can exhibit similar performance characteristics to
conventional concrete when properly designed and produced. With appropriate quality control measures and mix design,
recycled aggregate concrete can achieve the required strength, durability, and other mechanical properties, same as
conventional concrete.
Overall, recycled aggregate concrete is an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional concrete that helps reduce
the environmental impact of construction activities while conserving natural resources.
