COMPUTER

AN PRESENTATION BY ANISHKA
WHAT IS AN COMPUTER

 A computer is a machine that can be programmed to

automatically carry out sequences of arithmetic or
logical operations. Modern digital electronic
computers can perform generic sets of operations
known as programs. These programs enable
computers to perform a wide range of tasks.
First computer

 The first computer was invented by Charles

Babbage (1822) but was not built until 1991. Alan
Turing invented computer science. The ENIAC (1945)
was the first electronic general-purpose digital
computer; it filled a room. The Micral N was the
world's first “personal computer”(1973).
First computer virus

 the Creeper program

 the Creeper program, often regarded as the first
virus, was created in 1971 by Bob Thomas of BBN.
Creeper was actually designed as a security test to
see if a self-replicating program was possible.
First computer generation

 The first generation of computers is generally known

as electromechanical computers or using vacuum tubes. For
example, ENIAC has used Vacuum tubes, relied on Machine
Language and Boolean logic. A computer using vacuum tubes is
very slow in executing programs compared to present-day
computers. The first generation of computers is generally

First computer game

 Spacewar is credited as the first widely available and

influential computer game. As early as 1950,
computer scientists were using electronic machines
to construct relatively simple game systems, such as
Bertie the Brain in 1950 to play tic tac toe, or Nimrod
in 1951 for playing Nim.
COMPUTER LANGUAGE

 A computer language is a formal language used to

communicate with a computer. Types of computer
languages include: Construction language – all forms
of communication by which a human can specify an
executable problem solution to a computer.
FUN FACT ABOUT COMPUTER

 1. The first electronic computer was huge and heavy. It was

called ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer)
and it weighed more than 27 tons and took up 1800 square feet
of space. It was built in 1946 to perform calculations for the
U.S. military. ENIAC could execute up to 5,000 operations per
second, which was faster than any other machine at that time.
ENIAC was also the first computer to use vacuum tubes, which
were the main components of electronic circuits until
transistors replaced them in the 1950s. ENIAC had about 18,000
vacuum tubes that consumed a lot of power and generated a
lot of heat.
