WHAT IS
TEAMSPORT?
A team sport includes any
sport where individuals are
organized into opposing
teams which compete to win.
Team members act together
towards a shared objective.
This can be done in a number
of ways such as outscoring the
opposing team.

BENEFITS OF TEAMSPORTS
• Improves problem-solving skills
• Team sports can help you reach fitness goals and maintain a healthy
weight.
• Boost self- esteem, discipline and decision-making

LEAD- UP
GAMES
A lead-up game isolates
one or more of the skills,
rules, and/or strategies
used to play the actual
sport it mimics. Lead-up
games help you learn
these components in a
fun way.

Human Goal
Human Goal is a lead up game of both soccer and basketball. This game improves your passing,
throwing and catching skills. You will develop catching and passing skills while running or jumping
with a ball in this game.

Starting Position of Human Goal

Two teams will be competing in this

game. Each team should have
equal number of players, about 9 to
11 players each group. The team
should have the following players:

1 Goalee
1 Defender
1 Center Fielder
6-8 Field Players

Mechanics and Rules of the Game
The object of the game is for the players to pass the ball to their goalee. Every good catch
of the ball to the goalee is 1 point. The team with the highest score after a 10-minute
running time is the winner.

1. Each player of the team will go to their respective starting position. The ball is placed at
the middle of the center line.
2. The game will start after the whistle of the referee or the teacher. The center fielders
will try to get the ball as fast as they can.
3. The center fielder who gets the ball will pass the ball to his team’s field players. The
center fielders are not allowed to pass the ball directly to the goalee. They will be part of
the field players after they pass the ball.
4. Only the goalee is allowed inside the goal crease. The team will score if the goalee
catches the ball inside the goal crease.
5. The defender can block the ball only in the defender’s lane.
6. When a team scores, the ball will be given to the center fielder of the other team.

Facilities and Equipment

a. Ball
In kickball, we use soccer ball size 3 or 4 with circumference of 27 to 28 inches
(69 to 71 cm) and weight of 14 to 16 oz (400 to 450 grams).

b. Bases
1st, 2nd and 3rd Base : 18”x18” wooden or rubber plate
Picher’s Box and home base :18”x 24” pentagon wooden or rubber plate

c. Diamond field
A kickball playing area is contained within a 90-degree angle, and is usually
called a diamond field; because the central part of the playing field is called the infield
is diamond-shaped. The outfield extends outward from the infield to a boundary.

Mechanics and Rules of the Game
The aim of the game is to score more “runs” than the opposition and a run is
scored one (1) when a player on the offensive team advances around all three bases
and back to the home base called home base from whence he started. Unless you kick
the ball so far that you can run around all the bases before it is returned it is called a
Home Run and will award a score of five (5) for every home run, you will probably have
to stop at one or more bases on your way around and wait for the next runner to kick the
ball so you can advance further.

Meanwhile, the defensive team is trying to get runners and base runners OUT. As
soon as three players on the offensive team have made outs, the two teams switch: the
defensive team will now become the offensive team and vice versa. An inning is
completed when each team has finished running, and a full game consists of three
innings.

Mechanics and Rules of the Game
The Defensive Team
The job of the defensive team, known as FIELDERS, is to catch or stop any balls hit, with the
aim of preventing offensive players from advancing around the bases and scoring runs.

The pitcher pitches the ball to the runner from the pitcher’s box.
The catcher stands or squats behind home base.
The first baseman is often a busy position, as many balls will be thrown to first base in an attempt to
put runners out who are running from home to first base.
The second baseman will guard much of the right side of the infield.
The third base player guards the area near third base.
The short stop stands between second and third base or third and home base.
The fielders stand indefinite positions behind the bases or infields.

Balls and Strikes

A pitched ball will be described by the umpire as either a strike or a ball.
Basically, a strike is a good pitch and a ball is a bad one.

By: Prof. Joanna Rose T. Burgos, Ed.M, MPES

Mechanics and Rules of the Game
GOOD PITCH
Must be pitched from the pitching plate.
The ball must be rolled on the ground straight towards the home base or the runner.
Must not be too fast or too slow.

A strike out occurs if three strikes are called against the runner and the runner has not managed to hit
the ball into Fair Territory.

A STRIKE is called if:

A pitch is good and the runner fails to kick, or kicks and misses, or kicks and hits the ball into Foul
Territory (without it being caught) or into Dead Ball Territory.
A pitch is bad (would be deemed a BALL) but the runner kicks and misses it.

A WALK occurs if:

A pitcher pitches four balls or bad pitches which the runner makes no attempt to kick. In this case the
runner will walk to first base.

By: Prof. Joanna Rose T. Burgos, Ed.M, MPES

Mechanics and Rules of the Game
Force Out & Strike Out
A runner who kicks the ball into fair territory is always forced to run to first, so the
fielding side can get the runner out by getting the ball to the base before the runner
arrives.
A strike out occurs if three strikes are called against the runner and the runner
has not managed to hit the ball into Fair Territory.

Tag Out
You have probably already grasped the point that fielders must tag out runners
who are not forced to run; simply standing on the base with the ball will not do. The
Defensive Team are allowed to tag the bases before the runners reach a certain base.

Catch Outs (ball is caught in the air)

When a runner kicks the ball in the air and the ball is caught on the full, the runner is out.
