Eating in a restaurant

• Chinese food is very popular with many foreigners. When they have a
chance to come to China, they would like to try some “real” Chinese
food because they know that the Chinese food they have had in their
own country is quite different.

• 中国菜很受外国人欢迎。 当他们有机会来中国 , 他们想尝尝一些


“真正的”中国菜 因为他们知道他们在自己国家的中国食物是完
全不同的。
Tuning In
• Welcome to our restaurant. ( 欢迎来到我们的餐厅。 )
• Here is the menu. ( 这是菜单。 )
• May I take your order now. ( 我现在可以点菜了 )
• What would you like for dinner? ( 晚餐你想吃什么? )
• What would you like to drink? ( 你想喝点什么? )
• This is a typical Chinese food. ( 这是一种典型的中国菜。 )
• I’m sure you will like it. It’s very easy. ( 我相信你会喜欢它。 这很容
易)
• Is everything good to your satisfaction? ( 一切都很满意吗? )
• Good-bye. Thank you for coming. ( 再见。 谢谢你的到来。 )
• Welcome to our restaurant again. ( 再次欢迎来到我们的餐厅。 )
• Waiter: Good evening. sir. Here's the menu for you.
• Guest: Thank you.(a ‘few minutes later)
• Waiter: May I take your order, sir? ( 先生,我可以接受您的订单吗? )
• Guest: Sure. I’d like to try some Sichuan food today.
Would you recommend some? ( 你会推荐一些吗? )

• Waiter: May I suggest Kung-pao chicken. ( 建议 )


It's a typical Sichuan dish, spicy and hot.
( 这是一道典型的四川菜,辛辣而且热。 )

• Guest: OK. II’I have it.


• Waiter: I would also suggest Beancurd ( 豆腐 ) with pepper and chili
sauce. ( 辣椒酱。 ). Many guests give high comments on it.
( 很多客人对此发表了高度评价 )
• Guest: It sounds interesting. I’ll have a try.
• Waiter: What kind of drink do you prefer? Beer, wine or tea?
• Guest: I’d like to try some Chinese tea.
What kind of tea would you suggest?
• Waiter: Chinese green tea is always a favorite with our
customers.
• Guest: OK. Ill have some Chinese green tea, then.
• Waiter: Thank you. Your dishes will take about fifteen minutes to
prepare.
Dialogue 2
• Guest: Excuse me, are you the head waitress? I’d like to have a word
with you.
• Head waitress: Yes, sir. What can I do for you?
• Guest: I’m sorry to bother you, but my friend and I have been waiting
half and hour for our last two dishes.
• Head waitress: I’m very sorry , sir. Our Staff are very busy this evening.
Could you tell me what you ordered?
• Guest: Kung-pao chicken. Branched with pepper and Chilli sauce.
• Head waitress: Don’t worry. Your meal will be ready soon.
Dialogue 3
• Kevin: It’s quite a nice restaurant, isn’t it?
• Xia Li: It certainly is
• Kevin:: Do you come here often?
• Xiao-Li: I come here once or twice a week. Would you like anything
else.
• Kevin: No, thanks. I’m quite full.
• Xiao Li: I think I’ve had enough too. Please let me pickup the bill. I’ll
pay for the dinner.
• Kevin: Maybe we could go Dutch.
• Xiao Li: No. no. You’re my guest. It’s my treat tonight. ( to the
waitress). Could you please bring us the bill?
