Introduction

× Google Maps - Software App which


provides navigation services & detailed
information of geographical regions
worldwide.
× Built by Google and launched in 2005 as
a C++ desktop program.
× Has seen drastic improvements in Tech,
GPS functionality and Satellite Imagery.
× Currently has over 1 billion users and is
in service in over 220 countries.
How does it work?
× When you set your destination – Google Maps uses combination of
Data and Tech including AI to travel to set destination taking least
time.
× It integrates other Google services – Street View and Google Earth.
× There are several components contributing to its functionality –
× Satellite Communication and Imagery
× Image Capturing and Stitching
× Data Processing
× Live Crowd Data
× Uses Algorithms to determine shortest path –
× Dijkstra’s Algorithm
× A* search Algorithm
Some of the AI Workloads applied -
Image Stitches images from special cameras captured by vehicles to
Recognition create 360° Street View.
Uses data from Satellites and Street View to create detailed map.

Object Using AI – classifies objects as streets, buildings, landmarks,


Classification etc. to enhance user experience.
Alerts the user when there are roadblocks, heavy traffic and so
on.
Machine It interprets/learns from sources – user inputs, satellite imagery,
Learning Street View etc.
This can be used to display vital info – ETA, most appropriate
routes for each vehicle and so on.
