I would like to express my special thanks of
gratitude to my Maths teacher “Mr. Rakesh
Pandey" for their able guidance and support in
completing my Project. I would also like to
extend my gratitude to the Principal Mam “Mrs.
Shalini Midha" for providing me with all the
facility that was required.
Certificate
This is to certify that Aayush Agarwal ,student of
class X has successfully completed the research on
the project of under the guidance of Mr. Rakesh
Pandey during year 2024-25.
Introduction
Introduction
● An equation that contains two variables and the degree of each variable being 1 is
called linear equation in two variables.
● A system of linear equations always exists in pair of equations.
● For example :
2x + 3y = 7
3x – 5y = 94`

● General forms of linear equation are as follows :
a1x + b 1y = c 1
a2x + b 2y = c 2
ATQ,
(x + 10y) + (10x +y) = 99
11x + 11y = 99
x + y = 9 …………… (1)
Case I Case II
x – y = 3 …. (2)y – x = 3 .…
x=6 (3) (By Elimination

y=6
Original Number = 63 or 36

• If the lines intersect at a point, then that point
gives the unique solution of the two equations. In
this case, the pair of equations is consistent.
1. Substitution Method
2. Elimination Method
Substitution
o
METHOD
In this method, we first choose an equation and then express any one of
the two variables in terms of the other.
o And then we will put that value of variable in another equation. Thus
value of variable is achieved.
o For Example :
Solve :- x + 2y = 8 and 3x + 4y = 14
A. x + 2y = 8
x = 8 - 2y …….(1)
3(8 – 2y) +4y = 14
24 -6y + 4y = 14
-2y = -10
2y = 10
y=5
Putting value of y in (1)
x = 8 – 2(5)
x= -2
ELIMINATION
o
METHOD
In this method we eliminates one variable out of two such that we can find
the solution of another variable.
o And therefore, we can further find the value of another variable.
o For Example :
Solve :- x + 2y = 8 and 3x + 4y = 14
A. (x + 2y = 8 ) X 2 = 2x + 4y = 16 …….(1)
3x + 4y = 14 ……..(2)
2x + 4y = 16
3x + 4y = 14
- - - .
-x + 0 = 2 .
x= -2
y= 5
