PRESSURE

PRESSURE is the force

for every surface – unit
that is pressed
vertically.
This definition firstly stated by
Blaise Pascal. As the tribute to him,
the unit in international unit system
is N/m or Pascal (Pa).
2
Pressure can be happen in

Solid Liquid

Gas

But we only will talk about

Solid pressure and Liquid pressure
Solid Pressure
Pressure at Solid substance is a real illustration to understand the
definition of pressure. The formula is:

P=

Note:
P = Pressure (N/m2 or Pa)
F = Force (N)
A = Area (m2)
P=

Based on the formula above, so we know that:

The bigger force, the bigger pressure

The narrower area, the bigger pressure
SAMPLE QUESTION
A force of 800 N acts on a surface of 5 m2. How much
pressure does this force produce?
Given: Answer:
F = 800 N P=
A = 5 m2 P=
P = 160 Pa
Asked:
So, the pressure is 160 Pa
Pressure: . . . . . . Pa
Because Franky needing wood to repair his house, Franky bought
dozens of pieces of wood. The pieces of wood are arranged on the
ground to form a block with a length of 5 m, a width of 2 m, a height of
1 m and a total mass of 20 kg. Calculate the solids pressure of Franky's
wood structure!
Given: Answer:
P=
m = 20 kg F=mxg
=
g = 10 m/s 2 = 20 x 10
P = 20 Pa
F = 200 N
Asked:
P=....? A=pxl
=5x2
A= 10 m2
A 5m

B
1m 2m
2m 5m

A block of mass 8 kg has the dimensions as shown

in the figure above. Placed in two ways A and B.
Compare the pressure exerted on the object on the
base underneath. If it is known that the acceleration
A. 2 : due to gravity
B. 3 : is 10 m/s
C. 4 :

. D. 5 :
Look at the following picture.

Count the pressure of the both objects!

Pressure of 150 N/m is experienced when a
2

force of 2 kN is applied. Calculate the area

over which the force is applied to obtain the
pressure stated.
A man with a weight of 740 N is standing on one
leg. His foot is exerting 2312.5 N/m2 of pressure
onto the ground. What is the surface area of the
bottom of his foot?
A shipping container is removed from a ship and
placed on the ground. The area of the container in
contact with the ground is 16 m2. The pressure
exerted on the floor is 2480 N/m2. What force is being
exerted by the shipping container on the ground?
Based on the picture above, choose the object which give
the biggest pressure and the smallest pressure to the floor.
An aquarium measuring 1 m long, 0,8 m wide and 0,4
m high is filled with water with a density of 1000 kg/m3
slowly so that the water height rises 2 cm every second.
If the air pressure is 1 x 105 Pa, then the pressure
experienced by the bottom of the aquarium after
charging takes place for 15 seconds is…
A.1,03 x 10 Pa
5 Po = 1x105 Pa

0,4 m
B.1,06 x 105 Pa
h
C.1,09 x 105 Pa 0,8 m

D.1,12 x 105 Pa 1m
