Implementing
Lean Six
Sigma in
Udhaar Book’s
SDLC
INTRODUCTION
This report presents a comprehensive
plan for implementing Lean Six Sigma
methodologies to enhance efficiency and
reduce waste in the Software
Development Life Cycle (SDLC) at Udhaar
Book. By applying these principles, we
aim to address the current challenges
faced by the organization and improve
overall project delivery with a focus on
continuous updates.
COMPANY
Udhaar Book is a product-based
company in Pakistan, offering free
online udhar, khatabook, and
cashbook management software.
The organization needs to
frequently update its software to
keep up with user requirements
and market demands.
CHALLENGES
The primary challenge identified is
the consistent missing of project
timelines, significantly impacting
overall productivity and project
outcomes. Additionally, the need
for continuous updates adds
complexity to the SDLC.
LEAN SIX SIGMA
OVERVIEW
Lean Six Sigma combines Lean
principles, focusing on reducing
waste and improving flow, with Six
Sigma, aiming to reduce variation
and improve quality. The goal is to
enhance efficiency and ensure
high-quality outcomes.
Tools Of Lean Six Sigma :

• DMAIC
• 5s
• Value Streaming Mapping
• Kanban
• FMEA

What Is DMAIC:

DMAIC is the problem-solving approach that drives

Lean Six Sigma. It’s a five-phase method—Define,
Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control—for
improving existing process problems with unknown
causes. DMAIC is based on the Scientific Method
and it’s pronounced “duh-may-ik.”

-Tool: Value Streaming Mapping

What Is Value Streaming Mapping:
Value stream mapping (VSM) is defined as a lean tool that employs
a flowchart documenting every step in the process. Many lean
practitioners see VSM as a fundamental tool to identify waste,
reduce process cycle times, and implement process improvement.
VSM is a workplace efficiency tool designed to combine material
processing steps with information flow, along with other important
related data. VSM is an essential lean tool for an organization
wanting to plan, implement, and improve while on its lean journey.
VSM helps users create a solid implementation plan that will
maximize their available resources and help ensure that materials
and time are used efficiently.

What Is Kanban:

A kanban board is an agile project management tool

designed to help visualize work, limit work-in-

help both agile and DevOps teams establish order in
their daily work.

Tool: PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act)

What Is PDCA:
In the 1950s, management consultant Dr William Edwards Deming
developed a method of identifying why some products or processes
don't work as hoped. His approach has since become a popular
strategy tool, used by many different types of organizations. It
allows them to formulate theories about what needs to change, and
then test them in a "continuous feedback loop."
