DEBATE.

Or De Bait?
So, what is DEBATE?

Debate
Noun

• A formal discussion on a particular matter, involving several people putting forth opposing arguments, with the goal
of convincing the other, or the deciding authority.
• The art of arguing persuasively, that the other side is wrong, and that you are right. And convincing the judges that
this is in fact the case.
• The art of convincing your friend to make bad financial decisions at 2am on a Tuesday.
HOW IT WORKS
• A debate event has 3 participants per team.
• Depending on the rounds, the topics are either given beforehand, or on the spot.
• If given on the spot, teams are given 15 minutes to research their topic.
• The first speaker on the affirmative team presents arguments in support of the resolution (90 seconds).
• The first speaker on the opposing team presents arguments opposing the resolution (90 seconds).
• Similarly, the second speakers speak from both teams (90 seconds).
• The third person from both teams will be responsible for rebutting (90 or 60 seconds).
• This is followed by a Q&A session where the judges ask questions to both teams.
RULES
• There should not be any interruptions; speakers must wait for their turns.
• Usage of abusive language is prohibited. However, witty slander is given a pass if done well.
• Participants must be unarmed.
• The decision taken by the judges is final, legal and binding. (Mod is God)
