uses of energy

What we will learn

 What is light energy?

 What is heat energy?
 What is sound energy?
 What is electrical energy?
 What is kinetic energy?
 What is potential energy?
 Can energy be changed from one form to another?
What is light energy?

 Light energy enables us to see. The Sun is our main source of light on
Earth.

 We need light to see in the dark.

What is heat energy?

 Heat is a form of energy that keeps us warm.Sun keeps the Earth and living things
on the Earth warm.

 Besides the Sun, we can also obtain heat from movement

electricity and burning fuels.
What is sound energy?

 Sound is a form of energy that we can hear.

For example- tap your feet on the ground or clap our hands.
-wearing headphones.

Ultrasound is used in hospitals to show images of the

parts inside a human body, such as a growing foetus.
What is electrical energy?

 Electrical energy Is a form of energy that is usally generated in power

stations.Energy stored in batteries and solar cells can albo be changed to
electrical energy.
What is kinetic energy?

 A moving object has kinetic energy such as a moving ball. The amount
of kinetic energy and object has depends on how quickly it moves. When
an object moves more quickly, it has more kinetic energy.
What is potential energy?

• Energy can be in stored in objects. Energy that is stored in objects in known

as potential energy,

Some forms of potential energy are chemical potential energy,

gravitational potential energy and elastic potential energy.
Chemical potential

 Chemical potential energy is sotred in food, fuels and batteries.

When we eat food, the chemical potential energy stored in the

food allow us to do work. It can be changed to heat to keep us
warm.
Gravitational potential energy.

 When an object is placed above the ground, it stores energy.

This energy is called gravitational potential energy.
Elastic potential energy.

 When we stretch a rubber band, wind up a toy or compress a

spring, we are storing energy in these objects. This energy is
known as elastic potential energy.

 A stretched rubber band

Energy conversion.

• It can be changed from one form to another. The change or changes in the
form of energy is called energy converstion.

Here are some examples of energy conversion.

• Waiyan sliding down gravitational potential energy kinetic energy
• Ghanim listening to music-> chemical potential energyelectrical
energysound energy.
