A word (other than a pronun) used to
identify any of a class of people, places, or
things (common noun), or to name a
particular one of these (proper noun).
Example :

CONCRETE NOUNS

Concrete Noun is a noun that can be sensed / observed / detected by the five
senses. A real noun in physical form.
Example : table, book, flour, Emily, bicycle, etc

ABSTRACT NOUNS

Abstract Noun is a noun that cannot be sensed / observed /


detected by the five senses. Nouns that are not material objects
are usually used to express ideas, concepts, feelings, or
circumstances. Abstract Nouns cannot be touched.
Example : Truth, danger, happiness, wisdom, life, faith, etc.

COUNTABLE AND UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS

• Countable noun is a noun can form a plural and, in the singular, can
be used with the idenfinite article.
Example : Book, plate, table, book , eraser
• Uncountable noun is a noun denoting something that cannot be counted
(substance or quality).

COLLECTIVE NOUNS

Collective Noun is a noun that is used to describe a group or collection and is a collection

EXAMPLE :
– group of people : family, class, team, etc
– group of animal : deer, fish, flock, etc
– group of things : furniture, equipment, bunch, etc

COMMON NOUNS

Common Noun is a classification of nouns for people, places, things and things in general.
Common Nouns do not use capital letters at the beginning of words, unless they are used to
start sentences or become titles.
Example : book, table, house, children, and etc.

PROPER NOUNS

Proper Noun is a classification of nouns for people (person), place (place), and things specifically /
special. Proper Nouns can be used to name days, months, nations, religions, places, institutions, or
organizations. Proper Nouns begin with a capital letter and do not start with a, an, the.

Example :Damri, Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Emily, dan etc

What are pronouns? Pronouns (pronouns in
English) are words that are used to replace
nouns with the aim of avoiding continuous
repetition of words.
Example :
 I visit my grandparents, they are at home.
 He who admires you so much has passed away.

PERSONAL PRONOUN

to replace the name of a person or thing. The name can be a subject or an object. Subject pronouns refer
to the person who does the work or the verb, while object pronouns refer to the person who receives the
verb so that it is placed after the verb or preposition.

EXAMPLE :
1. John teaches Sara. = He teaches her. (subject + verb + object)
2. You work with me. (subject + verb + preposition + object)

POSSESIVE PRONOUN

Possessive pronouns indicate ownership of an object. They are similar


to possessive adjectives but are not followed by a noun.
EXAMPLE :
• This jacket is yours.
• That’s Tom’s scarf and those gloves are his too.

Possessive adjective is a determiner (special adjective) used to


express possession (possession) of a noun.
Example :
• My house costs a lot
• This is my new house

REFLEXIVE PRONOUN

We use reflexive pronouns when the object in a sentence is the


same person as the subject.
Example :
• I taught myself to play the guitar. = I learned the guitar on my own.
• Have you hurt yourself?
• Yes, I cut myself when I prepared the vegetables.

Noun and prounoun are different beause noun is definiting things (Place, people, etc)
