Introduction:

• In this project, a prototype has been designed and developed for real time health monitoring
using Internet of Things (IoT). Non-intrusive sensors DS18B20, MAX30100, and AD8232 are
used for recording patient’s health parameters like body temperature, heart rate, SPO2
and ECG signals respectively.

• The data gathered is transmitted to the IoT cloud which can be visualized using a web based
server or any android based application. Using this system the physician can use the cloud
platform to diagnose patients at remote locations (like home).

• The patients can also access their medical records via this cloud service. These data can be
analyzed by a doctor at remote location or can be saved and retrieved later for analysis.

2
Objective:
Problem Statement: Due to the lengthy process, working people tend to ignore Health Care check-ups or
postpone it.

• As a solution to this, remote monitoring enables medical professionals to monitor a patient remotely
using various technological devices.

• These services can provide comparable healthy outcomes to traditional in-person patient encounters,
supply greater satisfaction to patients, and can also prove to be cost-effective.

• The goal of this project has been to implement an IOT based E-health monitoring system which monitors
the patient’s body parameters such as body temperature, pulse rate, oxygen level in blood and ECG of the
heart regularly.

• Also send the data over the internet which will be retrieved by the doctors for diagnosis and close family
members, receiving regular updates as well.
3
Hardware and Software Design:
Hardware Design: 1.Arduino Uno as the microcontroller,
2.MAX30100 (pulse rate and SPO2 measurement sensor)
3.DS18B20 (body temperature measurement sensor)
4.ECG Sensor Module AD8232(Generates waveform based on Heart beats and sounds)
5. NODE MCU ESP8266 WiFi module.
6.16*2 LCD display.
7.Lead Electrodes for ECG Sensor, Jumper Cables , Adapter 12V-1A etc.

Software Design: 1.Adafruit io(is an open-source IoT platform service that allows us to collect,
analyze, visualize and store live data streams in the cloud and develops an IoT application. )
2.Arduino IDE(Arduino IDE is open-source software that is mainly used for writing,
compiling,
debugging the code, and uploading it to Arduino Module. )

4
Methodology:
In this Project we have developed a Smart Health Monitoring System to keep an eye on important
health stuff like dissolved oxygen levels, body temperature, and heart activity with reference to Pulse
rate and ECG waveform. To do this, we have used various devices like Arduino Uno micro-controller,
Node MCU ESP 8266 wifi module , MAX30100 pulse oximeter sensor , DS18B20 Temperature
sensor , AD8232 ECG Sensor, 2* LCD 16x2.

The data from all sensors gets collected once every 15 seconds , which is received by Arduino uno
from which pulse rate in beats per minute is calculated , and data gets displayed on LCD of system.
then the data is transfered to Adafruit IOT cloud with the help of Node MCU. ECG sensor waveform
is displayed on Arduino IDE's Serial Plotter.

Thus we are able to monitor patients parameters successfully and doctor can see the data of patients
using Adafruit cloud service on his personal devices .

Time(msec).
v.SpO2 measurement range : 0%-100% with accuracy between 70%-99% ± (2-
3%) Below 70% unspecified.
vi.Pulse rate measurement range : 30bpm-250bpm with uncertainty of ± (2-6%) .

Conclusion:

● The Internet of Things is considered now as one of the feasible solutions for any remote value
tracking especially in the field of health monitoring.
● It facilitates that the individual prosperity parameter data is secured inside the cloud, stays in the
hospital are reduced for conventional routine examinations and most important that the health can be
monitored and disease diagnosed by any doctor at any distance.
● In this project, an IoT based health monitoring system is developed. The system monitored body
temperature, pulse rate and room humidity and temperature using sensors, which are also displayed
on a LCD.
● These sensor values are then sent to a medical server using wireless communication.
● These data are then received in an authorized personals smart phone with IoT platform. With the
values received the doctor then diagnose the disease and the state of health of the patient.
Summarize the key points of the discussion and their implications for clinical practice or future
research.
