Eye Defect To Write...

The document discusses long-sightedness or hypermetropia, which causes difficulty focusing on nearby objects due to the eye being too short. Long-sightedness can be corrected by wearing convex spectacle lenses that converge light before it enters the eye so the focal point is on the retina.

LONG-SIGHTEDNESS

• The eye can not focus on objects that are close to the eye.
1. Eye may be too short
2. May not be able to make the lens fat enough to focus the
light.
3. Often happens as people get older, as the lens loses
elasticity.
Long sightedness or hypermetropia

A person who is long sighted can focus clearly on distant objects but cannot
focus on near objects. This is because the eyeball is too short. Light from near
objects is focused at a point behind the retina resulting in a blurred image.
Correction of long-sightedness

This defect can be corrected by wearing a convex (converging) spectacle

lens. The rays of light from a near object are converged before entering the eye
so that the cornea and eye lens can direct the focal point onto the retina .
CORRECTING LONG-SIGHTEDNESS

• A convex lens is used.

CORRECTING SHORT SIGHTEDNESS

• We use a diverging lens to

correct this.
• Allows the light to be
focussed on the retina
instead of in front of it.
