INTRODUCTION

• The Chhattisgarh wildlife is simply astounding. There are so many


species that can be found here, from birds to mammals and reptiles.
• Chhattisgarh is a state in India home to over 2000 species of plants &
animals. The state has two national parks: Satpura National Park and
Kanger Valley National Park. Apart from these, there are also three
Chhattisgarh wildlife sanctuaries.
ACHANAKMA

SANCTUARY
Achanakmar Chhattisgarh Wildlife Sanctuary
is spread across an area of 551.55 square
kilometer, with altitudes varying from 200 to
1000 meter above sea level. Being one of the
best Wildlife Sanctuaries in India, the
Achanakmar Chhattisgarh Wildlife Sanctuary
has a rich biodiversity. Some of the animals
that can be spotted here include wild animals
such as Leopard, Blackbuck, Chital, or four-
horned antelope.

WILDLIFE
SANCTUARY
Badalkhol Chhattisgarh Wildlife Sanctuary is the
best place to wander into the depths of nature’s
beauty and diversity. In fact, there is an
undeniable reason why one should visit this
stunning wildlife sanctuary – it has been specially
designated as a habitat for some of the rarest
species in India. Indian Gazelle, Bison, Deer,
Hyena, Chinkara, Spotted Deer, Chausingha,
Jackal, Nilgai, Wild Boar, Sambar are all present
in this sanctuary. Leopard and Tiger can also be
observed at the Badalkhol Wildlife Sanctuary,
though they are existent in a small quantity.

A WILDLIFE
SANCTUARY
Barnawapara Chhattisgarh Wildlife Sanctuary is a
small wildlife sanctuary Spread over an area of 245 sq.
km. It is located in the Mahasamund district. Located
in north Chhattisgarh, it is one of the prominent tourist
spots in central India. Having a dense grassland and
bamboo-dominated forest area near Mahasamund
town, it covers various types of flora and fauna from
all over the country.
This sanctuary is home to various species including
four-horned antelopes, porcupines, striped hyenas,
muntjac deer, leopards, tigers, and sambars to name a
few. It has been notified as an Elephant Reserve since
1975 by the Government of India under Section 88 of
The Wildlife Protection Act 1972 making it a protected
area for elephants.
PAMED
SANCTUARY
The Pamed Wildlife Sanctuary is an important
wildlife reserve placed in Dantewada spread
over an area of 262 sq km. Pamed Wildlife
Sanctuary has some precious trees like Sal and
teak. There are mixed forests creating a
different aura about the place. Here you find
the chital or the spotted deer, Indian Gazelle
and the chinkara. Those who are interested in
wildlife will never forget the images of the
deer running all around the sanctuary.
GURU GHAISDAS
NATIONAL PARK
Guru Ghaisdas National park is located opposite
Kanger, Chhattisgarh. It is named after state's
Satnami hero Ghaisdas. It is part of contiguous
forest belt between two tiger reserve i.e. Palamau
in Jharkhand and Bandhavgarh in Madhya
Pradesh . The region consists of a wide variety of
mammal population. Tigers, Leopards, Chital,
Nilgai, Chinkara, Jackals, Porcupine, Monkey,
Bison, Striped Hyena, Sloth Bear, are some of the
common species found in this region. It is also an
ideal place to watch migratory birds
KANGER VALLEY
NATIONAL PARK

Kanger Valley National Park derives its name


from Kanger river. It covers 200 square
kilometer which is the best place and famous
amongst wildlife enthusiast with reference to
flora and fauna. It is located at Bastar at the
bank of the river Khola river at a distance from
27 km from Jagdalpur. It is land for leopards,
deer, hyena, flying squirrel and various other
mammals.
