Demo Teaching

The document discusses resistor color coding and how to determine the value of a resistor based on the colored bands. It covers the basics of resistance, characteristics of resistors like nominal value, tolerance and power rating. It also provides the color code chart and steps to determine the value of resistors using their color bands.

RECAP OF THE LESSON
The resistor is one of the basic components in Electronics that are designed to limit, divide voltage or
permits the flow of current in the circuit.
• Fixed Resistor is the value that cannot be changed.
• Variable Resistors can change the value but in a specified range.

RESISTANCE
• Resistance (R) is the opposition that a
substance offers to the flow of electric
current.
• Ohm Ω is the standard unit of resistance

Did you know?

Ohms was named after German scientist and mathematician
Georg Simon Ohm “LIKE A ROCK IN A
FLOWING RIVER”
(1787-1845)

RATING
Three of the bands tell you the the amount by which the the amount of heat or wattage
nominal value in resistor resistance may vary from its of the resistor during the

COLOR CODE CHART:
• Never use the BLACK as the first digit band.
• In tolerance, the Gold and Silver are the only
colors that can be found in 4th digit/band.
• For 4- bands resistors, the gold or silver
band is always the last band.
• If there is no tolerance band (±20%), then
the first band is the one located closest to a
lead.
PROCEDURE

Steps in Determining the Color Bands in the Resistors

1.Hold the resistor in horizontal. Look for the 3 colors that are
near to each other. Place it on your left side.

2. Look for the 1st Color

3. Look for the 2nd Color

GROUP ACTIVITY

1.Each group must determine the value of the given resistors.

2. Write it down on a ½ crosswise paper with the name

of their members and group number on the left side of
your paper.

3. You will be given 15 minutes to answer. Time starts now!
