THE LEARNING/TEACHING SITUATION

Status of English: An important foreign language in Viet Nam, especially in


Ho Chi Minh city.
Role of English: The foundation course for students to take the final exam as
well as the university entrance exam.

English is a compulsory subject in Viet Nam. All grade 8 students in public


secondary school use this book as their coursebook.
Main reasons for learning English

 Complete the training program from grade 1 to grade 12


 Basic communication
 Developing cognitive ability
 Get closer to the international environment
 Your English your future
Time/Intensity
• About 105 periods per course
• 45 minutes per period
• About 3 periods per week
=> Not intensive to achieve higher level
