BI Methods
Data mining: Using databases, statistics, and machine learning (ML) to uncover trends in large
datasets
Reporting: Sharing data analysis to stakeholders so they can draw conclusions and make
decisions
Performance metrics and benchmarking: Comparing current performance data to historical
data to track performance against goals, typically using customized dashboards
Descriptive analytics: Using preliminary data analysis to find out what happened
Querying: Asking the data-specific questions, BI pulling the answers from the data sets
Statistical analysis: Taking the results from descriptive analytics and further exploring the data
using statistics such as how this trend happened and why
Data visualization: Turning data analysis into visual representations such as charts, graphs, and
histograms to more easily consume data
Visual analysis: Exploring data through visual storytelling to communicate insights on the fly
and stay in the flow of analysis
Data preparation: Compiling multiple data sources, identifying the dimensions and
measurements, and preparing it for data analysis
BI tools used by IT companies
SAP Business Warehouse (SAP BW) is SAP’s Enterprise Data Warehouse product.[1] It
can transform and consolidate business information from virtually any source system.

SAS Business Intelligence (BI) is a suite of applications that allows you to prepare and
display data for statistics, predictive analytics, data mining, text mining, and
forecasting. The tools provide interactive visualizations backed by analytics.

MicroStrategy is an enterprise business intelligence tool that offers powerful

(and high speed) dashboarding and data analytics, cloud solutions and
hyperintelligence

Yellowfin BI is a business intelligence tool and ‘end-to-end’

analytics platform that combines visualisation, machine
learning, and collaboration.
It is a BI tool that combines BI, corporate performance management and
business analytics. Board uses multiple data sources to create reports

This BI tool provides tools for storage, data ingestion, visualization,

analytics queries, application integration, etc.
IBM Company
• BI T00L : IBM Cognos Analytics
• IBM Cognos Business Intelligence) is a web-based integrated business intelligence suite by IBM. It provides a toolset for reporting, analytics,
scorecarding, and monitoring of events and metrics. The software consists of several components designed to meet the different information
requirements in a company. IBM Cognos Analytics has components such as IBM Cognos Framework Manager, IBM Cognos Cube Designer, IBM
Cognos Transformer.
• Basic components
• Cognos Connection
• Cognos Connection is the Web portal for IBM Cognos BI. It is the starting point for access to all functions provided with the
suite. Using this portal, content can be searched in the form of reports, scorecards, and agents, it can be managed, structured,
and displayed. In addition, the portal is used for multiple functions, for example to schedule and distribute reports, for creating
tasks, administering the server, and the access permissions to content available to different users. You can also create shortcuts,
URLs, and pages.
• Query Studio
• Query Studio allows simple queries and self-service reports to answer basic business questions. The report layout can be
customized and data can be filtered and sorted. Formatting and creation of diagrams is also supported. [1]
• Report Studio
• The Report Studio is used to create management reports. It offers two different modes: The professional authoring mode
enables users to access the full range of Report Studio functionality. In this mode, users can create any type of report,
including charts, maps, lists, and repeat functions. In professional authoring mode all types of Data (relational or
multidimensional) can be used, but dynamic data can not be displayed
INFOSYS COMPANY
• BI Tools used by Infosys company
• Spreadsheets: Spreadsheets like Microsoft Excel and Google Docs are
some of the most widely used BI tools.
• Reporting software: Reporting software is used to report, organize,
filter, and display data.
• Data visualization software: Data visualization software translates
datasets into easy-to-read, visually appealing graphical
representations to quickly gain insights.
• Data mining tools: Data mining tools "mine" large amounts of data for
patterns using things like artificial intelligence, machine learning, and
statistics.
• Online analytical processing (OLAP): OLAP tools allow users to
analyze datasets from a wide variety of angles based on different
business perspectives.
Microsoft corporation
• BI Tool : Microsoft Power BI
• Power BI provides cloud-based BI (business intelligence) services, known as "Power BI Services", along with a desktop-based
interface, called "Power BI Desktop". It provides data warehouse capabilities including data preparation, data mining, and
interactive dashboards. In March 2016, Microsoft released an additional service called Power BI Embedded on its Azure cloud
platform. One main differentiator of the product is the ability to load custom visualizations

• Key components

Power BI Desktop
The Windows desktop-based application for PCs, primarily for designing and publishing reports to the service.
Power BI Service
The SaaS-based (software as a service) online service. This was formerly known as Power BI for Office 365, now referred to as
PowerBI.com, or simply Power BI.
Power BI Mobile Apps
The Power BI Mobile apps for Android and iOS devices, as well as for Windows phones and tablets.
Power BI Gateway
Gateways are used to sync external data in and out of Power BI and are required for automated refreshes. In enterprise mode, it can
also be used by Microsoft Power Automate (previously called Flows) and PowerApps in Office 365.
Power BI Embedded
Power BI REST API can be used to build dashboards and reports into the custom applications that serves Power BI users, as well as
non-Power BI users.
KEY BENEFITS OF BI
• Receive support for fact-based decision-making. BI tools help executives, managers, and
workers uncover insights that are relevant to their roles and areas of responsibility – and use
them to make decisions based on fact, not guesswork.
• Gain and maintain competitive advantage. With timely BI, organisations can quickly identify and
act on new trends and opportunities. They can also assess their own capabilities, strengths, and
weaknesses compared to competitors and use that information to their advantage.
• Measure and track performance. BI dashboards make it easy to monitor key performance
indicators (KPIs), track progress against targets, and set alerts to know where and when to focus
improvement initiatives.
• Identify and set benchmarks. BI solutions let organisations compare their processes and
performance metrics to industry standards, determine where improvements are needed, set
meaningful benchmarks, and monitor progress toward goals.
• Spot issues so they can be resolved. With BI, users can detect potential business problems
before they cause financial harm – such as manufacturing or distribution bottlenecks, upward
trends in customer churn, rising labour costs, and more.
• Operate more efficiently. Business intelligence systems allow everyone to spend less time
hunting down information, analysing data, and generating reports. They can also identify areas of
overlap, duplication, or inefficiencies across departments or subsidiaries in order to streamline
operations.
