TYPICAL ANNOUNCEMENTS OVER THE PUBLIC ADDRESS SYSTEM.

Hooter will sound- Are you aware of the sound of this building’s hooter?
Await for the announcement on the PA system-then evacuate. It may be a
false alarm.

Announcement over the PA system:-


“Ladies &gentlemen, there is an emergency in the building which is
under control. For safety reasons, please evacuate the building and
follow the instructions of the Fire Marshall (Security Personnel) to reach
to the safe assembly point”.
Fire can spread with extreme speed. Risks should never be taken and staff should:
Keep calm and leave in a quick and orderly manner
Not to waste time in collecting personal possession
Know the nearest escape route and avoid being cut off.
1. Use stairs, not lifts
2. Report at Assembly Point
3. Head count to ensure that no one is trapped inside the premises
4. Do not return to building until it is safe
Emergency Response Team
The ERT team is distributed in following categories to maintain discipline action plan and work
accordingly when real emergencies emerges/ occurs.

 Firefighting team.

 Rescue /Evacuation team.

 First Aid team

 Cordon team,

 Logistic team

 Administrative team.

 Maintenance team.
ORGANISATION’S ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE EVENT OF FIRE

FIRE SAFETY DIRECTOR:


1. Report to the fire command Station to supervise and declare an emergency.
2. Coordinate to man the fire command station.
3. Ensure that the fire department has been notified
4. Follow guidelines as provided in the fire safety plan
5. Provide information on the condition of fire floor to the fire department on their arrival and the operation of the fire
command station.
6. Once the fire is under control consult the fire brigade and give an “ALL – CLEAR” signal.
7. On the basis of building situations, the nearest hospital will be alerted and ambulance will be called up immediately to
evacuate the victims to hospitalized for further treatments. The Nearest Police station will be called up for the proper
investigation and to do the Panchanama for the dead bodies. And fire brigade team will be also called up to
extinguishing the fire and do the further fire action plan on the eve of situation and also investigate on the route cause
of fire. and take up the entire operation and execute smoothly.
BUILDING EVACUATION SUPERVISORS :

1. Gather the list of occupants in the building through attendance sheet or through access control report.
2. Rush to the safe assembly point with the occupants list
3. Guide the occupants in the safe assembly point and ensure that they stand in line according to their block wise or
floor wise departments.
4. Guide the assembly area monitor or the fire warden to take a head count of the occupants of his respective floor.
5. Tally the numbers of the people available in the safe assembly point with the attendance sheet or the access
control report.
6. Find out if someone is missing; if so make necessary arrangements to track the missing person.
7. Take special precaution and safely reached the safe assembly point.
MAINTENANCE/ FACILITIES :

1. Make sure all the lifts are grounded by activating the grounding switch.
2. Cut off the Electrical supply but maintains the UPS to keep the emergency lights ON.
3 Shutdown all the HVAC (heating ventilating and air conditioning system)
4. Turn off all the Oil and gas line valves to prevent any major fire.
5. Deactivate the access control system so that no doors towards the exit are locked or blocked.
6. Maintain the power in the fire Hydrant pump room.
SECURITY TEAM:
Security team plays a vital role during emergency in a mall to be alert and emerge with following teams.
a) Fire fighting team. ( The supervisor will alert to the Command Control Centre about the situation of fire emerged
inside the building. Ensuring the typical and condition of the situations. On that basis, the fire fighter ‘s will be alerted
and locations will be shared or announced to control the blaze fire.) If the fire fighter team found Casualties/ victims in
unconscious conditions will alert the rescue team.
b) Rescue team. (Being alerted by the fire fighting team. the rescue team will immediately rush to the given location by
using stair case and evacuate the people by guiding the fire escape route plan. The casualties will be uplifted by using
stretchers, and hand techniques to the red tape zone area where first aid team will facilitate.
c) First aid. (Being alerted by the rescue team. The first aid Team will immediately rush towards the red tagged zone are
where the casualties. Being bought for the further treatment.
d) Public control team. (Being alerted by command control Centre. The public control team will Cordon up the red
tagged zone area to avoid crowd and Media to interference on disturbance to execute the operations. And guide the
others employees / customers to report at Safe assembly area for head counting. And Ensuring no theft or pilferage
during the situation. and see that there is no traffic movement in that area.
Administrative Team /Deputy warden
Receive and guide the fire brigade to the fire spot.
Take the head counts of the Visitors and contract staff at the safe assembly area.
Assist the fire brigade by providing necessary equipment's and tools till the fire fighting operation has been completed.

FIRST AID TEAM:

a) On hearing the alarm rush to the spot or to the safe assembly point with necessary first aid items like first
aid kit, oxygen Pac, stretcher, AED, wheel chairs.
b) Look for the casualties and provide necessary first aid, if required before shifting the casualties to medical
Centre.
c) If needed call for the Ambulance or make necessary transportation arrangements.
d) Provide necessary details to the hospitals in advance.
NOTE:-The ERT team should be well versed and be trained by the classified resident Doctor for
the CPR process i.e. Cardio pulmonary resuscitation.
Definition:- CPR (Cardio pulmonary resuscitation) it is the process by mouth to mouth respiration
and chest compression is performed to restore maintain breathing and circulation to provide oxygen
and blood flow to the heart ,brain and other vital organ when a victim is found unconsciousness
GUIDELINES FOR THE OTHER OCCUPANTS IN THE EVENT OF FIRE:

1. Stop your job, do not panic and do not be lethargic.


2. Do not worry about your personnel belongings.
3. Take a brisk walk, do not run.
4. Take the nearest safe exit.
5. Use the stairs to come down,
6. Do not use the lift.
7. Do not go to the terrace or the basement.
8. Assist anyone who needs help.
9. Electrician/lift technician to ensure that, to get all the lift of block wise to the ground floor.
10. Proceed and Report to the Assembly point at (opposite fire brigade)
11. Do not re- enter the building until instructed by the ERT team(Emergency rescue team)
12. Old aged people and pregnant ladies and childrens to be assist at the first during evaquation from the building.
13. Proceed to the safe assembly point
14. Offer yourself for the head count taken by the fire wardens or the building evacuation supervisor.
15. Do not re-enter the building unless and until instructed by the ERT team (Emergency rescue team) an All-Clear signal is
given by the authorities.
