WHAT TO AVOID … PLAGIARISM
Plagiarism is the copying of another person’s ideas or expressions without appropriate
acknowledgment and presenting these ideas or forms of expression as your own.

It includes not only written works such as books or journals but data or images that may
be presented in tables, diagrams, designs, plans, photographs, film, music, formulae,
web sites and computer programs.

Plagiarism also includes the use of the work of lecturers or other students as your own
without acknowledgment.

At MIBT, there are heavy penalties for plagiarism and collusion, so ensure that your
work is your own and original.

Also make sure that your own work is not plagiarised by others!

Now undertake the Compulsory Online Quiz via the Deakin College portal.
COLLABORATION …
We encourage collaboration but this does not mean doing someone else’s work
for them.

Part of learning is the exchange and discussion of ideas and viewpoints, it gives
you a broader perspective.

Remember we are here to guide you and assist you although we do largely expect
that you will self-educate yourselves too.

Do not be afraid to ask questions in class, or seek out staff for a one-on-one chat
or consultation.
WHAT TO DO NOW?
Purchase the prescribed textbook: See previous slide for details.

Spend some time exploring your online learning environment:

◦ Read (print?) the Unit Outline on the portal;
◦ Locate where you will be able to find assessment information on the portal
◦ Explore some of the resources available to you;

Good luck and welcome to MIS101. 
