INTRODUCTION
 A fifth-wheel drive system is a type of drivetrain configuration commonly used in heavy-duty
trucks and recreational vehicles (RVs) to improve traction and towing capabilities. Unlike
traditional drivetrains that typically have either two-wheel drive (2WD) or four-wheel drive
(4WD), a fifth-wheel drive system adds an extra axle and set of wheels to provide additional
stability and power distribution.

 Parallel parking is a method of parking a vehicle in-line with other parked vehicles. Parallel
parking requires initially driving slightly past the parking space, parallel to the parked vehicle in
front of that space, (hence the term 'Parallel Parking'), keeping a safe distance, and then
followed by reversing into that space.

 Parallel parking enables the driver to park a vehicle in a smaller space than would be true of
forward parking. Driving forward into a parking space on the side of a road is typically not
possible unless two successive parking spaces are empty.
LITERATURE REVIEW
SL NO TITLE OF THE PAPER AUTHOR AND YEAR OF OBSERVATION
PUBLICATION
1 Work on parallel parking of car using fifth Priyadarshini R,2015 According to his study, Parallel parking is the method of
wheel park the vehicle parallel in between the two-vehicle
keeping the safe distance. They developed a system by
introducing a fifth wheel at the rear side of the vehicle.
The pneumatic system is used as a jack to lower the
wheel and lift the vehicle from the rear side. The prime
mover is used to provide a power to the fifth wheel and
for forward and reversed rotation is also done by
motor.

2 Introduced a parallel parking mechanism using Mr. Paresh G. Chaudhary,2018 In this paper they invented the mechanism such that
an auxiliary drive wheel the rack and pinion transfer the motion to the
triangular hub which lift the vehicle as it has one point
is pivoted. After lifting the vehicle, the motion will be
provided to the auxiliary drive wheel with the help of
DC motor or a chain and sprocket mechanism as per
the requirement

3 Develop and design the 90-degree steering Mandir Herer,2018 Which consist of rack and pinion, bevel gear, internal
mechanism gear, chain and sprocket. They are modifying steering
system in that system front axle wheel rotate left half
direction and other wheel rotate right half direction
using special type of mechanism. Because of this
modified steering system, the car or vehicle rotate 360
degrees. This system having low cost and user friendly.
NEED FOR FIFTH WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM
 One of the primary reasons for choosing a fifth-wheel drive system is the increased towing
capacity it offers. The additional axle and improved weight distribution can handle heavier
trailers or loads more effectively than traditional 2WD or 4WD setups.

 Improved Stability the extra axle in a fifth-wheel drive system enhances vehicle stability,
especially when towing large trailers or driving in challenging terrain. This stability is crucial for
maintaining control and reducing the risk of accidents, particularly at high speeds or in adverse
weather conditions.

 Enhanced Traction Fifth-wheel drive systems provide better traction, particularly in off-road
environments, snow, mud, or slippery surfaces. This is beneficial for drivers who regularly
encounter rough terrain or adverse weather conditions and need reliable performance.

 Versatility vehicles with fifth-wheel drive systems are versatile and can handle a wide range of
driving conditions, from everyday commuting to towing heavy loads or navigating off-road
trails. This versatility makes them suitable for a variety of applications, including commercial
use, recreational activities, and personal transportation.
PARTS OF FIFTH WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM
DC – MOTOR It’s a 30-rpm dc motor, it is used drive robot wheel.

ROCKER SWITCH It is a one of the types of switch.having no of wires

are connected.

ROCKER SWITCH BOX It is a fabricated box in which rocker switches

are fixed.

ALUMINIUM FRAME Size is 1*1.5 feet and it is light in weight.

WOODEN BOARD Size of wooden board is same as aluminum frame

having 1*1.5 feet. It is bad conductor of electricity.

DUMMY WHEELS It is a shaft of wheel and wheel are mounted on

dummy wheel.

WHEELS It is 6-8 cm diameter. Used to move the robot.

Wires No of colors of wires having 1mm thickness it is aluminum

wires.
DESIGN FACTORS TO BE CONSIDERED

 Vehicle Type and Size

 Weight Distribution

 Axle and Suspension Design

 Drivetrain Compatibility

 Towing Capacity

 Terrain and Use Case

 Safety Features

 Regulatory Compliance

ADVANTAGES
 Easy Maintenance

 Change in mode is Easy

 Applicable in every 4 wheeler

 To obtain better parking in narrow space and at multiplexes.

 To obtain 0 to 360 degree turning with zero turning radius.

 Resolve Traffic Problems.

 Vehicle parking and driving in city conditions with heavy traffic in tight spaces. This type of car can
be taken through traffic jam.

 Saving of Time
DISADVANTAGES
 Additional wheel is required

 Extra space is required

 Less boot space

 Weight and Fuel Efficiency

 Handling and Maneuverability

 Maintenance Requirements

 Limited Availability
FUTURE SCOPE

 Aim for development of a system to useful in the automotive sector.

 Four bar mechanism will be implementing for working of fifth wheel, our aim is to fold the fifth
wheel axel for better space adaptability.

 Hence whenever needed operated must have unfold the fifth wheel axel by actuating rack and
pinion.

 Arranged conventional steering system at front side.

CONCLUSION

The project carried out by us made an impressing task in the field of automobile industries. It is
very usefully for driver while driving the vehicle and parking the vehicle. This project has also
reduced the cost involved in the concern. Project has been designed to perform the entire
requirement task which has also been provided.

A vehicle featuring low cost and user-friendly steering mechanism for Auxiliary wheel has been
introduced. This focused on a steering mechanism which offers feasible solutions to a number of
current maneuvering limitations. A prototype for the proposed approach was developed by
introducing separate mechanism for normal steering purpose and 360-degree steering purpose.
This prototype was found tobe able to be maneuvered very easily in tight spaces, also making
360◦ steering possible.
