Introduction to Adobe Photoshop
• Adobe Photoshop (Adobe Ps) is a raster graphics(a type of digital image that uses
tiny rectangular pixels arranged in a grid formation to represent an image) editor
developed and published by Adobe Inc. for macOS and Windows.
• Photoshop is one of the best image Editing Software on the earth, It’s a magic and
amazing editing software.
• Also Photoshop one most power full and flexible image tool available on any
platform. Photoshop format (PSD) is the default file format. Which stands for
Photoshop Document, that Photoshop uses for saving data.
• Two major general usages of Adobe Photoshop are:

Editing Existing Images

Photoshop Workspace
• Adobe Photoshop Workspace consists 5 main components which are:
• Application(Menu) Bar.
• Options Bar.
• Tools Panel.
• Document Window.
• Panel Dock.

Photoshop Workspace
• Application(Menu) Bar: It contains various menu options for Photoshop’s tools
and sits on the top of your Photoshop window.

• Options Bar: It contains Photoshop’s tool options and sits below the menu bar.

Photoshop Workspace
• Document Window: It’s where we edit the image which is the large area in the
center of the interface. The actual area where the image is visible is known as the
canvas.

• Panel Dock: It hold information or options for working with your file and floats
on the right-hand side.

• The Toolbox can be divided as follows:

Selection Tools
• Move Tool (V): The Move Tool allows you to move a
selection or entire layer by dragging it with your mouse
or using your keyboard arrows keys.
• Artboard Tool (V): The Artboard Tool allows you to
create special group layers called artboards which is a
container with a rectangular boundary

• Marquee Tool (M): The Marquee Tool allows you to draw
a shape that selects any object inside its dimensions.
• Rectangular Marquee Tool (M): Makes a selection in the
shape of a Rectangular.
• Elliptical Marquee Tool (M): Makes a selection in the
shape of an Ellipse.
• Single Row Marquee Tool: Makes a Horizontal selection
that is a single pixel high.
• Single Column Marquee Tool: Makes a Vertical selection
that is a single pixel high.

Selection Tools
• Lasso Tool (L): The Lasso Tool allows you to draw a
freeform or irregular selection.
• Polygonal Lasso Tool (L): The Polygonal Lasso Tool
allows you to draw freeform selection outlines based on
straight lines.
• Magnetic Lasso Tool (L): The Magnetic Lasso Tool is an
edge detection tool, which automatically follows edges of
objects.

Selection Tools
• Object Selection Tool (W): The Object Selection Tool
allows you to select one of the objects or part of an object
within an image that contains multiple objects.
• Quick Selection Tool (W): The Quick Selection Tool
allows you to select an object in your image by
interpreting and selecting along defined edges visible in
your image.
• Magic Wand Tool (W): The Magic Wand Tool allows you
to select a portion of your image that has the same or
similar colors.

Crop & Slice Tools
• Crop Tool (C): The Crop Tool allows you to select an
area of an image and discard everything outside this
area.
• Perspective Crop Tool (C): The Perspective Crop Tool
allows you to correct the converging verticals or
horizontal lines in a picture with a single crop action.

• Slice Tool (C): The Slice Tool allows you to divide an
image into smaller sections which fit together with
straight edges.
• Slice Select Tool (C): The Slice Select Tool allows you to
select and modify existing slices.

Measuring Tools
• Eyedropper Tool (I): The Eyedropper Tool allows
you to sample a color from an image to use this color
further.
• 3D Material Eyedropper Tool (I): The 3D Material
Eyedropper Tool allows you to drop the material
filled in the tool onto the target area of a 3D object.
• Color Sampler Tool (I): The Color Sampler Tool
allows you to view color values in defined spots of
your image.

• Ruler Tool (I): The Ruler Tool allows you to measure
distances and angles in an image.
• Note Tool (I): The Note Tool allows you to add text
notes to a file in Photoshop.
• Count Tool (I): The Count Tool allows you to count
objects in an image.

• Spot Healing Brush Tool (U): The Spot Healing Brush
Tool allows you to remove blemishes and other
imperfections in your photos.
• Healing Brush Tool (U): The Healing Brush Tool allows
you to paint with sampled pixels from an image or pattern.
• Patch Tool (J): The Patch Tool allows you to remove
unwanted image elements.

• Content-Aware Move Tool (J): The Content-Aware Move
Tool allows you to choose an element to transfer from one
photo to another, placing it seamlessly so that it looks like
it naturally belongs.
• Red Eye Tool (J): The Red Eye Tool allows you to remove
red eye from photographs that have been taken with a
direct flash source.

• Clone Stamp Tool (S): The Clone Stamp Tool allows you
to paint one part of an image over another part of the
same image that has the same color mode.
• Pattern Stamp Tool (S): The Pattern Stamp Tool allows
you to create your own pattern stamps

• Eraser Tool (E): The Eraser Tool allows you to change
pixels to either the background color or to transparent.
• Background Eraser Tool (E): The Background Eraser
Tool allows you to erase pixels on a layer to
transparency.
• Magic Eraser Tool (E): The Magic Eraser Tool allows you
to erase a portion of your image that has the same or
similar colors.

• Blur Tool: The Blur Tool allows you to paint a blur effect
on your image.
• Sharpen Tool: The Sharpen Tool allows you to apply
localized sharpening effects to an image
• Smudge Tool: The Smudge Tool allows you to simulate a
brush smearing wet paint.

• Dodge Tool: The Dodge Tool allows you to lighten areas of
the image.
• Burn Tool: The Burn Tool allows you to darken areas of
the image.
• Sponge Tool: The Sponge Tool allows you to
saturate a portion of an image.

• Brush Tool (B): The Brush Tool allows you to paint on any
layer, much like a real paintbrush.
• Pencil Tool (B): The Pencil Tool allows you to draw hard-
edged lines in photos.

• Color Replacement Tool (B): The Color Replacement
Tool allows you to make a color change by sampling the
original color and replacing them with your selected
foreground color.
• Mixer Brush Tool (B): The Mixer Brush Tool allows you
to mix colors on the canvas, combining colors on a brush,
and varying paint wetness across a stroke.

• History Brush Tool (Y): The History Brush Tool allows
you to restore parts of an image to an earlier history state
by painting over them.
• Art History Brush Tool (Y): The Art History Brush Tool
allows you to paint with stylized strokes, using the source
data from a specified history state or snapshot.

• Gradient Tool (G): The Gradient Tool allows you to create
a gradual blend between multiple colors.
• Paint Bucket Tool (G): The Paint Bucket Tool
allows you to fill a selection with the current
foreground color.
• 3D Material Drop Tool (G): The 3D Material Drop Tool
allows you to sample a material from one area and then
drop it into another area of your model, mesh or 3D layer.

• Pen Tool (P): The Pen Tool allows you to create easy
to complex shapes by creating set of anchor points as
a basis for design.
• Freeform Pen Tool (P): The Freeform Pen Tool allows
you to draw as if you were drawing with a pencil on
paper while anchor points are added automatically as
you draw.

allows you to draw complex shapes and paths in
curved or straight lines.
• Add Anchor Point Tool: The Add Anchor Point Tool
allows you to add anchors and reshapes existing vector

allows you to creates and edits vector-based text as
horizontal in a separate layer.
• Vertical Type Tool (T): The Vertical Type Tool allows
you to creates and edits vector-based text as vertical in
a separate layer.

active layer & cuts letters out of a background as
horizontal.

you to select and move Paths.
• Direct Selection Tool (A): The Direct Selection Tool
allows you to select, move or modify individual Anchor
points in a path/shape and manipulate it.

elliptical shapes and paths.
• Polygon Tool (U): The Polygon Tool allows you to draw
shapes with many sides as you need.

point line on the canvas.
• Custom Shape Tool (U): The Custom Shape Tool allows
you to add various stock shapes to an image, like music
notes, hearts and flowers.

Navigation Tools
• Zoom Tool (Z): The Zoom Tool is used for
magnifying a selected part of the image.
• Hand Tool (H): The Hand Tool allows you to move
your image around its window by dragging.
• Rotate View Tool (R): The Rotate View Tool allows
you to rotate the document canvas.
