Ancient Greek mythology

Arthur McGlynn
• The start of greek mythology is when Gaia
(goddess of earth) gave birth to Uranus (god of
the sky) who she had children with, the
Cyclops, the Hundred Handed Giants and the
Mythology: Titans. Uranus locked the children away in
Tartarus, the deepest part of the Underworld.
Gaia didn’t like this and asked her children to
Before The get revenge, first, the cyclops, who said no,
then the hundred handed giants who said no,

Olympians Then titan lord Kronos (lord of time) who said

yes. The Titans rained terror upon Earth, and
successfully defeated Uranus. That night
onward, spirits would come remind Kronos of
his Crime and that his son would overthrow
him every night.
Mythology: The birth of Kronos’
Children

• When Kronos finally had Children, he did something terrible. The first was
called Hestia, Kronos’ wife fell asleep, and he devoured Hestia whole! Then
came Demeter, who suffered the same fate, then Hera, eaten whole, Hades,
who also got eaten, Poseidon, but this time his wife was awake and in the
room, Kronos must love sea food, because he ate him right in front of her, she
asked what he was doing, he told her the prophecy. But when his final child,
Zeus came around, she replaced him with a pile of rocks! Kronos fell for it,
and she sent young Zeus to safety with his grandmother.
• Zeus was 20 years old when he finds out about what
Mythology: Zeus happened to his siblings, and he decides to go to the Titan
Lords palace to get revenge. He sneaked in as a guard and
gets his siblings saw his mother. She recognised him immediately, and told
him a plan. Zeus poured mustard in Kronos’ wine and he

back and prepare threw up with disgust. Since the gods were immortal, he
threw up Zeus’s brothers and sisters. The gods ran away
before Kronos got them. They built a palace on mount
for war Olympus and made an alliance with the other two siblings
of the Titans, the Cyclops’s made each god a magical item
and said, “to the lord of darkness, Hades we present the
helmet of darkness, this will make you impossible to see.
To the lord of the seas, Poseidon, we present a magical
trident, this will give you power over your enemies. And to
the lord of the skies, Zeus, we present the master bolt, this
will make you king of the world.
Mythology: the Titan war

• The titans came to attack, lead by Kronos and the gods were finally ready to
fight. The battle was vicious. The gods had very powerful weapons as Zeus cut
a mountain in half with his thunderbolt. In the final events of the war, the gods
cut up Kronos with his own scythe, casting almost all the titans into Tartarus,
the only exceptions being Prometheus, who was friendly, and Atlas (Kronos’
General), who was made hold up the sky for eternity. The gods made
themselves the Olympians.
The Twelve Olympians:

• Zeus (god of the sky)

• Poseidon (god of the sea)
• Hades (god of the underworld)
• Aphrodite (goddess of love)
• Apollo (god of music)
• Artemis (goddess of the hunt)
• Hera (goddess of heaven)
• Hermes (god of thieves)
• Demeter (goddess of harvest)
• Ares (god of war) (no its not Kratos)
• Athena (goddess of wisdom)

Perseus the Hero:

• The story of Perseus is a classic hero myth,

best-known for describing how Perseus killed
the monstrous Gorgon named Medusa, who
had snakes for hair and the power to turn
anyone who looked in her eyes into stone. As
the son of Zeus and his mother Danae, Perseus
was a demigod (half-human, half-god),
exemplifying the complex relationships
between gods, goddesses, and humans in
Greek mythology. Perseus achieved success in
his adventures, including rescuing and
marrying Andromeda. However, his story is
also a reminder of the importance of fate in
Greek mythology; Perseus ultimately fulfilled
a prophecy foretold by an oracle, which
warned that he would kill his
grandfather Acrisius.
Hercules the Hero
• Hercules was a demigod in Greek and
Roman mythology who rose to godhood
through many adventures and great
deeds. He is the son of Zeus, king of the
gods, and Alcmene, a mortal woman and
granddaughter of Perseus. Hercules is
best known for his incredible strength and
the Twelve Labors that he performed for
King Eurystheus, as well as his many
encounters with a myriad of famous
figures from Greek mythology.
