On Difference of With and Without Subtitled Movies

Based on the study of Ebrahimi & Bazaee (2016) students who watch subtitled
movies to learn a foreign language have shown improvement in reading and listening
comprehension, word comprehension, decoding skills, motivation and vocabulary
acquisition.

Watching English subtitled movies facilitates vocabulary learning and motivate

learners in acquiring new vocabularies, phrases, idioms and slangs. The study revealed that
EFL learners have positive attitude towards the utilization of English subtitles movies in the
process of language learning and vocabulary recognition in particular and proved that
subtitles are beneficial in improving vocabulary learning. With regards to comparison of
students’ attitude between watching movies with subtitles and without subtitles, the study
revealed that the participants acquired more words while watching English subtitled movies

compared to movies without subtitle (Faqe, 2020).

According to Osbouei (2015), using movies with subtitles to teach a foreign language
can facilitate students’ motivation, solve ambiguity and remove some of the anxiety of the

Reasons for Sampling

1.) Necessity
Sometimes it’s simply not possible to study the whole
population due to its size or inaccessibility.

2.) Practicality
