Example :
I was hospitalized for a week
because of malaria last m o n t h .
At first, I had headache,
aching muscles, stomachache, and
weakness.
Then, I got fever,
chills, loss of appetite
and vomiting. I thought
that I got cold, b u t the
doctor said that I had
malaria. I was
afraid because people suffered
from malaria
can develop severe complications
and die. The doctor and t h e nurse tried t o
calm me down.
2 NARRATIVE TEXT
Narrative t e x t is an imaginative
sto ry t o entertain people

Purpose : t o entertain t h e readers


Generic structure :
- Orientation ( w h a t , who,
where, when)
- Complication (problems)
- Resolution (problem solving)
- Moral value
Example :
The sun shone brightly and t h e west breeze blew. The
kite was flying t h is way and t h a t way tie d t o her s t ring.

Suddenly t h e string snapped. The kite was free. She


soared high in t h e air until she couldsee far, far away.
The kite followed some parrots who t o ok her t o see t h e
rainforests. The air was cool and t h e kite got w e t .
The kite followed some crocodiles who t o ok her t o see
th e
rivers. The air was misty and t h e kite caught a fish.
The kite followed some wallabies who t o ok her t o see
t h e deserts. The air was h o t and t h e kite got tired.

So t h e kite followed t h e sun who took her back home,

3 DESCRIPTIVE TEXT
Descriptive t e x t is a t e x t whichsays
what a person or a thing
is like.

Purpose : to describe
someone/somet hing specifically

Example :
Yu ta is one of t h e 150 International students
a t t h e ELC of Brigham Young University. He is
from Japan. He grew up in Japan, and he is 19
years old. There are six people in his family, a
father, a mother, three sisters and himself. He
is t h e youngest in his family. He is also t h e only
boy in his family, b u t now he is in Provo, Utah,
studying English. Yu t a likes t h e United S t a t e s
very much and he thinks everything is cheap.
Yu ta thinks his English classes are excellent and
t h e teachers are professionals.
Yu ta thinks someone in his class is noisy so he
doesn't like t h a t . In his free tim e he spends
to o much tim e sleeping, so i t seems t h a t he
has a sleeping sickness
4 PROCEDURAL TEXT
Procedure t e x t is a text to
describe how t o make or doing
something.

Purpose : to tell t h e
reader how t o do something
in order.

Meanwhile t h e noodle is cooked, mixed
t h e chili powder, t h e oil and t h e seasoning
into a bowl. Pour t h e cooked noodle into
t h e bowl. Delicious noodle is ready to
eat.
5 REPORT TEXT
Report is a t e x t whichprese n t
information about something, as
it is a result
of systematic observation
and analyses.

PLATYPUS
Many people call platypus duckbill because this animal has a
bill like duckbill. Platypus is a native Tasmania and southern
and eastern Australia.
Platypus has a flat tail and webbed f e e t . Its body length is
3 0 t o 4 5 cm and covered with a thick, and woolly layer of
fur. Its bill is detecting prey and stirring up mud.
Platypus' eyes and head are small. I t has no ears b u t has
ability t o sense sound and light.
Platypus lives in streams, rivers, and lakes. Female platypus
usually dig burrows in t h e streams or river banks. The
burrows are blocked with soil t o protect i t from intruders
and flooding. In t h e other hand, male platypus
does n o t need any burrow t o stay.
