Oh God Almighty
behold us Your loving

Objectives:
Define what is pollution
Identify the different type of pollution and
its cause and effects
Value the important of knowing the
different pollutants
Demonstrate on how to clean a polluted
area (water)
Pollution
Pollution
What is Pollution?
is the introduction of harmful
materials into the environment.
These harmful materials are called
pollutants.
Pollutants can be natural, such as
volcanic ash. They can also be
created by human activity, such as
trash or runoff produced by
factories. Pollutants damage the
quality of air, water, and land.
Pollutants
Different Types of
Pollution

 Air Pollution
 Water Pollution
 Noise Pollution
 Soil Pollution
Air Pollution

 is contamination of the indoor

or outdoor environment by any
chemical, physical or
biological agent that modifies
the natural characteristics of
the atmosphere.
Air Pollution

 This can be in the form of

excessive gases like carbon
dioxide and other vapours that
cannot be effectively removed
through natural cycles, such as
the carbon cycle or the
nitrogen cycle.
Air Pollution

Causes
Effects of Air
Pollution
 The effects of air pollution are
alarming. It is known to create
several respiratory and heart
conditions like asthma, chronic
bronchitis, emphysema, heart
attacks, strokes, and cancers,
among other threats to the
body.
Water Pollution
 is the contamination of water
sources by substances which make
the water unusable for drinking,
cooking, cleaning, swimming, and
other activities. Pollutants include
chemicals, trash, bacteria, and
parasites. All forms of pollution
eventually make their way to
water.
Water Pollution
Water Pollution
Effect of Water
Pollution
 Water pollution damages the plants and aquatic
animals present in the river by reducing the oxygen
content from the water.
 it is toxic water that cannot be drunk or used for
essential purposes like agriculture, and which
also causes diseases like diarrhea, cholera,
dysentery, typhoid and poliomyelitis
Noise Pollution

 is considered to be any
unwanted or disturbing
sound that affects the
health and well-being of
humans and other
organisms. Sound is
measured in decibels.
Noise Pollution
Noise Pollution

Causes
 Industrialization
 Social Events
 Transportation
 Animal Sounds
Effects Noise
Pollution
 Problems related to noise
include stress related
illnesses, high blood
pressure, speech
interference, hearing loss,
sleep disruption, and lost
productivity.
Soil Pollution
 refers to the contamination
of soil with anomalous
concentrations of toxic
substances.
 is defined as the presence of
toxic chemicals (pollutants
or contaminants) in the soil,
in very high concentrations
to pose a risk to human
health and the ecosystem.
Effects of Soil Pollution
Effects of Soil
Pollution
 affects soil fertility; this
jeopardizes food security, which
is essential for human survival. It
also poses risks to human health
— both indirectly through the
consumption of contaminated
food and drinking water, and
directly through exposure to
contaminated soil
Soil Pollution
How can we help the
environment to
lessen the pollution
and reduce global
warming?
