Polygon Day 1

The document discusses polygons and their properties. It defines what polygons are, provides examples of common polygons up to decagons, and categorizes polygons as regular or irregular based on side lengths and angle measures. It includes classroom activities for students to practice identifying and classifying polygons.

“POLYGONS”
POLYGONS
In mathematics,a polygon is a closed two
dimensional figure made up of line
segments but not curves. The term polygon
originates from the Greek word “poly -”
meaning “many” and “-gon,” meaning
“angles.” Polygons are named according to
thenumber of sides and angles they have.
POLYGONS
• A closed plane figure formed by three or
more segments called sides.

• Each line segment is called the side of

the polygon and each endpoint where
the sides meet is called the vertex of the
polygon.
1. TRIANGLE - it has three sides.
2. QUADRILATERAL - it has four
sides.
3. PENTAGON - it has five sides.
4. HEXAGON - it has six sides.
5. HEPTAGON - it has seven
sides.
6. OCTAGON - it has eight sides.
7. NONAGON - it has nine sides.
8. DECAGON - it has ten sides.
Types of Polygons:
1. Regular Polygon
A regular polygon is a polygon
in which all the interior angles
are equal, and also, all the sides
are equal.
Types of Polygons:
1. Irregular Polygon
An irregular polygon is a
polygon with a different
measure of angles and side
lengths.

Why is it important to
study polygons?
-Polygon is important for us to have
