Introduction.
Brick quality is examined in terms of compressive strength and water absorption.
Paver brick standards are defined by SANS-1058:2012, according to compressive
strength and their dimensions.
They are divided into two types: type S-A for interlocking, S-B for non-interlocking and
S-C which allows no geometrical interlock.
Compression molding and plastic molding.
Compression molding parameters ( compressive pressure, heating, and cooling)
Pressing is done using a hydraulic or pneumatic press.

Hydraulic Presses.
A hydraulic press uses a hydraulic cylinder to
generate compressive force by following Pascal’s
law.
Hydraulic press are widely used in application where
a larger force is required.
the force delivered by the hydraulic press is
determined as follows:
Force= Hydraulic pressure* Ram area.

Stress analysis of the plate
Hydraulic press plate is subjected to pure bending.
The bending stresses are determined using the
flexural formula:

Cooling systems in compression
molding.
Liquid ccoling is widely used due to high heat dissipation and low temperature rise.
The type of coolant used is selected based of the specific heat, density, thermal
conductivity, and viscosity of a fluid.
Water is widely used due to its high specific heat of 4200J/kgK and low viscosity.
Water can absorb more heat while as its temperature changes slowly.

Heat Sources in Compression Molding
The heat sources used during compression molding include an electric cartridge
heater and an induction heater.
A cartridge heater is inserted into drilled holes together with a thermocouple as a
sensor.
Parameter to consider when picking a cartridge heater include the watt density,
intended temperature and drilled hole size.
An induction heater uses AC power source to heat the inducting target.
They are installed together with thermocouple, usually K-type thermocouples.
