that anyone can follow. You have to follow these few simple
steps, and you will be on your way to writing an A grade
paper in no time.
Here are the steps:
Step 1: Choose a topic

The first thing is to choose a great topic. To do this,

you want to brainstorm a group of topics that are
interesting to you. You can also choose one that interests
you among what your teacher or lecturer has given as an
option.
Step 2: Do some research

After choosing a topic, the next thing is to do some

research on it. You want to be knowledgeable about your

Step 3: Draft out an outline of your essay.

Once you have done with the research part, the

third process would be to write a draft. Drafting is a
crucial step in the process that cannot be ignored.

Falling in love is like being on drugs.

That feeling of euphoria you get when you fall in love is the
same feeling that substance users experience, according to one study published

PERSUASIVE ESSAY SAMPLES Essay 1

Why Students Should Eat Breakfast Every Day

A lot of people, especially young people, go through the day without having breakfast.
Many people believe that it is not necessary, or they say that they don’t have time for that, and
begin their day with no meal. I believe that everyone should eat breakfast before going to their
activities. The purpose of this paper is to show the importance of breakfast, especially for students.

The first reason why you should eat breakfast before going to school is for your health.
When you skip breakfast and go to school, you are looking for a disease because it’s not healthy
to have an empty stomach all day long. It’s very important to have a meal and not let your stomach
work empty. All you are going to get is gastritis and a lot of problems with your health if you don’t
eat breakfast.
Another reason for eating breakfast is because you need food for to do well in your
classes. You body and your brain are not going to function as good as they could because you have
no energy and no strength. When you try to learn something and have nothing in your stomach, you
are going to have a lot of trouble succeeding. A lot of people think that they should not eat because
they are going to feel tired, but that’s not true. Breakfast is not a very big meal, and on the contrary,
you’re going to feel tired if you don’t have breakfast because you have spent the entire previous
night without food.
The last reason to have breakfast every day is because you can avoid diseases if you eat
some breakfast in the morning. If you don’t eat, you are going to get sick, and these diseases will
have a stronger effect on you because you’re going to get sick easier than people who have
breakfast every day.
You have to realize that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and you cannot
skip it without consequences for your health, your school and your defense mechanism. It is better to
wake up earlier and have a good breakfast that run to school without eating anything. It is time for
you to do something for your health, and eating breakfast is the better way to start your day.
REMEMBER:
 Add an interesting question or an anecdote for the
introduction

 Use appropriate figures of speech to strengthen your appeal

 Use reasons and examples as support

 Use factual and opinion statements

 Summarize your reasons

 Use the last sentence to further persuade your readers to

agree with you, or invite your readers to action

 Revise and polish your work

Exercise 3

Make a Persuasive Writing Essay

argumentative
Writing
C. Argumentative Writing

In Quarter 3 Weeks 1-2, you learned that argumentative writing aims to change
the reader’s mind by convincing him or her to agree with your point of view or
consider your stand or argument on an issue. The main argument presented is
elaborated and explained through the presentation of its pros (in favor of) and
cons (against) of your position in an issue or topic. It begins with an introduction
and ends with a conclusion. In between are the body paragraphs where you must
do three things: support your opinion, present the opposing point of view, and tell
why that viewpoint is wrong. When you write an argument, you are trying to
convince your reader that your opinion is correct. A strong argument has five (5)
key parts
Learning Task 1

Below is a mixed-up informative text. Arrange it in a way that shows the structure
(I+MID+C) of the ideas with topic, details, and big idea.

How to Travel Solo Successfully

 The first way to travel solo successfully is to arrive well-informed on the area.

 Use money belt as a purse not for storage. Keep your passport, extra stores of money,
and other documents in a theft-resistant bag.

 Freya Stark once said, “To awaken quite alone in a strange town is one of the most
pleasant sensations in the world.”

 It may pose perils here and there but a little preparation and common sense can get you
through the rough spots
 In terms of fun, pack for your lack of companionship. Bring a blank journal to
record your adventures. Pack a paperback to enjoy while you wait out a
rainstorm in a coffee shop.

 As solo travel can be the ultimate in self-indulgence, learning how to do it is

each one’s innate ability, and something that can be learned today.

 Traveling alone is an achievable feat.

 You will be surprised that you absorb new surroundings, make new
acquaintances, and encounter self- discovery.

 Also, in line with safety, you must have to carry good identification in more than
one place.

 Your security is at risk when you are trapped in a busy street scanning frequently
the GPS on your phone while looking for a place to eat or stay. It also matters
if you booked for your accommodation in advance and are in the know of
public transport system
Learning Task 2

Persuasive writing states and supports an opinion. Based on the given

statements, write your own persuasive text using the structure (I+3BR+C).

Some people think recesses in school should be longer. They believe kids might
learn better if they had a longer break in the middle of the day. However, the extra
class time after recess would make the school day longer. Therefore, kids would
get out of school later in the day. What do you think? Support your opinion with
persuasive writing.
Learning Task 3

Write an essay arguing for or against the topic, “Young people nowadays
should decide to take a gap year before they start university.” Consider the following:

 Outline the value of education.

 Decide whether one decision is more beneficial than the other
 Suggest how the issue should be treated in the future.
 Develop a five- paragraph argumentative essay of 100-200 words. Be guided
by the following outline/structure: (I-C/T + B-PCR + C)
Learning Task 4

Read the given facts or ideas about throw-away culture. Use them in
developing
your essay focusing on techniques in one (1) of the writing forms - informative,
persuasive, and argumentative.

 People in the Philippines should learn to use things over and over instead of
simply throwing them away.
 Plastics in disposable items remain in the environment for many years after the
items have been thrown away.
 Filipinos throw out 2 to 3 kilos of items per day; this is more than half a ton of
garbage per person each year.
 Each year 1 million dogs and cats are put to sleep in humane societies.
 Filipinos spend about 100 million pesos each year on disposable plastic and
paper plates.
 Filipinos spend nearly 29 million pesos each year on disposable diapers.
 Other disposable items, such as pens, lighters, and razors, cost another 18
million pesos.
 This fairly throw-away attitude or culture has become the worst problem of our
time.
CONCEPT DIGEST

 Informative writing educates the readers by imparting straightforward

information.

 Persuasive text builds arguments on opinions and factual statements.

 The main objective of an argumentative text/essay is to change the reader’s

mind by convincing him or her to agree with your point of view or consider
your stand or argument on an issue.

 The main argument in an argumentative essay is explained through the

presentation of its pros (in favor of) and cons (against) of your position in an
issue.

 Body paragraphs in an argumentative essay include stating one’s

opinion/claim, giving reasons to support the opinion, and arguing against the
opposite opinion.
Instructions: Read the statements carefully. On your paper, write AGREE if the
statement expresses truth about argumentative, informative, and persuasive
writing; and DISAGREE if it says otherwise.

__________1. The main objective of an argumentative essay is to tell a story.

__________2. Persuasive text combines facts with emotions to convince the
reader
that the author is “right”.
__________3. In developing body paragraphs in an argumentative essay, you
must
state your opinion, expand the claims, give reasons to support your
opinion, and argue against the opposite opinion.
__________4. Informative writing aims to give the readers a new understanding
or
appreciation of some topics with which you might be familiar with.
__________5. There is no need to present the pros and cons arguments in an
issue
