Brief Introduction of SAC

June 2023
what’s SAC
• SAC is short for SAP Analytics Cloud.
• It’s an end-to-end cloud solution that brings together business
intelligence, augmented analytics, predictive analytics, and enterprise
planning in a single system.
• The main benefits of SAC include ease of viewing content,
connectivity to trusted data, access to various visualization tools,
augmented analytic capabilities, and financial planning features. In a
single cloud system you can analyze, ask, predict, plan, and report.

Key Concepts in Calculation View
• Columns
• Calculation columns (http://teachmehana.com/sap-hana-calculated-
column-view/)
• Join type (http://www.hanaexam.com/p/sap-hana-join-types.html)
Create Calculation View - 1
1. Create calculation view in Content in HANA studio:
2. Drag and drop table to calculation view
3. Add column to Output
Create Calculation View - 2
4. Specify Type(attribute or Measure) for column
5. Change Apply Privileges to Classical Analytic Privileges.
6. Save and Activate
What’s Connections
SAC provides live connection (online) and data acquisition (batch)
connectivity – two ways for accessing your data located anywhere in
your information-system landscape

What’s Modeler
• A model is a representation of the business data of an organization or
business segment. You can use a model as the basis for your story.
The Modeler is the place where you can create, maintain, and load
data into models.
• Modeler is based on calculation view (live data). Only calculation view
can be operated by modeler, standard database table or database
view can’t be operated by modeler.

Key Concepts in Modeler
• Dimensions
Dimensions on the other hand represent categories that provide perspective on your
data. For example, product category, date, or location
• Measure
Measures hold numeric values and typically represent quantities that provide
meaning to your data. For example, sales revenue, salary, or number of employees.
• Formula
Formulas perform calculations on either constant values or members of the
dimension.

What’s Story
• Stories are at the center of the SAP Analytics Cloud experience. They
let you explore data interactively to find insights, visualize information
with charts and tables, and share, present, and comment on your
findings with colleagues.
• Story is created based on one or more modelers.

Story - 2 Calculated in Measure

• Calculated dimension
Story – in-Story calculations
• Calculated Dimension used to do the calculations of dimensions using mathematical formulas
• Measure-Based Dimension used to group particular values based on measures
• Calculated Measure used to apply any kind of mathematical formulas to our data
• Restricted Measure Restricting a measure value to a particular dimension.
• Aggregation creates a measure with an aggregated values such as sum, count or another aggregation types
• Dimension to Measure based calculations allow you to convert a string to a numeric value
• Difference From reflects the calculated difference in value between two time periods like year over year,
quarter over quarter and month over month
• Data Difference used to find out the particular difference between two date fields
• Cross Calculation it is best used when you have two measures and you want to compare the difference
between the data.

Story - 3 Calculated in Measure

• Calculated dimension
What’s Data Analyzer
• Data analyzer contains a table, a tool bar with essential functionalities
like Save/Save As..., Export, Edit Prompts dialog (in case your data
source is designed for setting prompts) and an option to Show
Filter (or Hide Filter) and a builder panel with navigation capabilities
to add and remove dimensions and measures from the table.
Data Analyzer - 1
Data Analyzer - 2
• Data analyzer just display the data from one modeler, user can change
dimension or measure, can’t have calculate dimension and calculation
measure.
