WHAT IS INTERNET?

• INTERNET: Interconnected Network

• The Internet is a vast network that connects computers all over the world.
Through the Internet, people can share information and communicate
from anywhere with an Internet connection.
WHAT IS USE OF INTERNET

Cashless Transactions _ Most countries are promoting cashless


transactions and digital payments. This helps people not carry much cash.

Education _ Most of the devices nowadays are connected through the


Internet. The Internet has the availability of broad educational content on
any topic with different types.
• Online Banking & Trading _ The way of banking has
changed after the introduction of the Internet. The
Internet has made banking online where people can
manage their bank accounts while sitting at home or
traveling abroad.

• Research _ The Internet is playing a significant role in the


field of research. Before the use of the Internet, it was
quite hard to look for information about anything.
• Electronic Email _ email or electronic mail is one of the first significant uses of
the Internet. The email has enabled faster communication between people on the
Internet

• Social Networking _ Social networking sites have connected people around the
world. Social networking is an essential part of the Internet.

• Entertainment _ The Internet is the most effective means of entertainment.


There are various options available on the Internet, which people can try, such as
watching movies, playing online games, listening to songs, etc.
• Real-time updates _ The Internet is helping people to keep up with what is happening
around the world. The presence of e-newspapers and magazines is updating people and
helping to cut paper usage.

• Advertising _ Because most people use the Internet, it is the best means of promoting
something or advertising. There are options for paid promotion as well as free promotion.

• E-Commerce _ The Internet is not just limited to ordering things; it can also be used to
sell products. Many e-commerce websites allow businesses and individuals to
their products.
HOW DOES INTERNET WORKS

• If you had a permanent connection to the intended destination or if your email


traveled as a whole instead of in pieces, an entire portion of the network would be
blocked every time you sent a message. With packet switching, many people can
use the Internet at the same time.

• There are millions upon millions of servers on the Internet. Servers store
information. There are file servers, mail servers and web servers. The Internet is
also made up of routers. Routers simply make connections between different
systems. For instance, at work or school, where several computers are networked,
you are connected to one router – a single point of entry for the Internet.
WHAT IS THE INTERNET PROTOCOL (IP)?

• Internet Protocol (IP) is a set of rules that dictate how data


should be delivered over the public network (Internet).

• Data traversing the Internet is divided into smaller pieces, called packets.
IP information is attached to each packet, and this information helps
routers to send packets to the right place.

• Once the packets arrive at their destination, they are handled differently
depending on which transport protocol is used in combination with IP. The
most common transport protocols are TCP and UDP.
WHAT IS URL(UNIFORM RESOURCE
LOCATOR)

A URL is composed of different parts, some mandatory and others


optional. The most important parts are highlighted on urls.

The protocol specifies how information from the link is transferred. The protocol
used for web resources is HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP).
WHAT IS INTERNET SECURITY?

• Internet security is defined as a process to create rules and actions to take


to protect against attacks over the Internet

An example of Internet security is an online system that prevents credit


card numbers from being stolen on a shopping website.
How does Internet Security works?
Internet browsers and Web servers have a secure way of talking to each other called http secure, or https.

It works by combining “certificates” and encryption, a communications technique that scrambles the
information as it rosses the Internet.

The very powerful and flexible https encryption, called SSL/TSL, overlays http, the basic standard
underpinning all Internet
communications.
DISADVANTAGE OF INTERNET
1. Hacking is the most common disadvantage of the internet.

2. Personal information in social media is very much vulnerable to hackers.

3. Virus threats on the internet can damage your data and information.

4. Too much addiction to internet leads to time wastage, affecting our productivity
and health.

5. Children should use the internet only under parental guidance.


6. Addiction to online games affects health leading to obesity and serious health issues.

7. Internet acts as a distraction for the students who spend too much time surfing and
playing games.

8. There are many audio and video contents which are not suitable for certain age groups.
