OBJECTIVES
To understand intersubjectivity
To appreciate the talents of persons with disabilities
and those from underprivileged sectors.
To perform activities demonstrating the talents of
persons with disabilities and those from
underprivileged sectors of society.
INTERSUBJECTIVITY
Intersubjectivity is a term used in philosophy, psychology,
sociology, and anthropology to represent the psychological
relation between people. It is usually used in contrast to
solipsistic individual experience, emphasizing our
inherently social being.
Solipsistic is the philosophical idea that only one's own
mind is sure to exist.
Intersubjectivity
Concept in philosophy
◦ INTERACTION between SELF and OTHERS. (interpersonal relations)
◦ Mutual recognition of each other as a person.
Refers to the shared awareness and understanding among person.
Refers to the characteristics of the human person to engage in a very
intimate and personal relationship with others who are different from
him or her but who are also like him or her.
RELATIONSHIP between SELF and the OTHERS enables the person to
relate to others and establish and maintain meaningful relationships.
SELF & OTHERs INTERACTION
Simple awareness of the existence of the others.
◦ Ex. When you see other people walking down the street, we are aware that there are
other being unique from us.

Awareness of the self as being seen by others.-(deeper level of interaction.)

Self-consciousness is considered by the philosophers as a defining characteristics


of the self-other relationship.
SEEMING- where individuals presents himself or herself in a
certain way when dealing with others.
◦ This is considered a natural and often unconscious act.

DIALOGUE –deeper and more genuine inter-action.


◦ (interaction between person that happens through speech or use or
words, expressions and body language.)
◦ Happens when 2 person truly acknowledge each other’s presence and
treat each other as equal.
EMPATHY (Feeling in) – the ability to share emotions.
◦ An important aspect of intersubjectivity and is driven by person’s
awareness of the emotions and thoughts of other people.
◦ It enables a person to place him or herself in the shoes of others and
leads to a greater understanding and appreciation of others.
◦ Ex. Emotion, such as happiness, anger and sadness.
SYMPATHY- feeling with
AVAILABILITY – refers to the willingness of a person to be present for
another and to render assistance to another.
◦ Willingness of a person to be present and be at the disposal of another.
Ethics of care
Ethical theory that emphasizes the moral dimension of
relationship and interaction.
This moral perspective encourage individuals to help other
people, most especially the vulnerable.
The proponents of the ethics of care believe that people have a
moral obligation to respond to the needs of other people.
Alienation – view other people negatively and
consider human actions as being influenced by
selfish interest

• ‘Matapobre” used to describe well-off people


who look down on other people that they
consider “poor”.
Acceptance of differences and embracing diversity.

Helen Keller – was an American author, political activist, and the first deaf-blind person to earn a bachelor’s degree. She lost her hearing and sight when she was an infant due to an
illness.At age 22, she published an autobiography , The Story of My Life, which described her life and struggles growing up.

Nicholas James “Nick” Vujicic(born 1982) is an Australian evangelist and motivitional speaker who was born with phocomelia, a condition in which a person is born with no arms or
legs. At 21 , he graduated with a degree in commerce and went on to pursue a career as a motivational speaker and evangelist .

Roselle Ambubuyog (born 1980) is the first visually-impaired Filipino to graduate Summa cum laude from Ateneo de Manila University in 2021. Paralympics , an international sports
competition modeled after the Olympics that features athletes with disabilities .World Down Syndrome Day(March 21), World Autism Awareness Day(April 2) and International Day of
Person with Disabilities (December 3)

closely related to you and to person whom you
feel comfortable to talk with. With the guide
questions provided below, asks the following
questions, and analyze how important the
conversation is and how they responded.

6.1 realize that intersubjectivity requires accepting
differences and not to impose on others
Most of the time, we look at our differences and may have
“labels” toward one another.
Label- a word or a phrase that is used to describe the
characteristics or qualities of people, activities, or things,
often in a way that is unfair:
Example: “troublemaker”

DISABILITY - a physical or mental condition that limits a person's
movements, senses, or activities.

SPIRITED KIDS – will notice everything going on around


her but will be able to select the most important
information to listen to.

ADHD- (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) will find


it difficult to focus or complete a task despite her best
efforts.

LAW TO PROTECT THE PWD’S
EO 417 Mandates all national government agencies and
state-run corporations to allot at least one percent of
their annual budget programs that will benefit the
sector.
It addresses the need for government to provide
capitalization for PWD’s livelihood activities, which
include support for technical skills through labor
department.
TParalympic Games is a major international multi-
sport event involving athletes with a range of
disabilities.
We are part of our society, we are still different individuals living in this
society. Each of us will have different appearances or points of view.
Labels could be negative or limiting. Nevertheless, we could go
beyond the labels, for as humans, we are holistic.
Thus, we can redesign the labels to something new and exciting.
If the negative labels can be contagious, so can the positive ones.
Let us focus on the positive, for these labels can strengthen not
just your relationships among your friends, but most especially to
your family.
MARTIN BUBER – a Jewish existentialist
philosopher. Born in Vienna and was brought up in
Jewish tradition.
I and thou –his work where he conceives the
human person in his/her wholeness, totality,
concrete existence and relatedness to the world.
Health deprivation has become focal point of the
underprivileged .
HUMAN RIGHTS are also relevant to issues of global
poverty in its focus on shortfalls on basic needs.
ON RIGHTS OF WOMEN
1712- Jean Jacques Rousseau said that women
should be educated to please men.
