Envisioning an Abundant Life For

All God’s Creation

INTRODUCTION
You hear time and time again about the abundant life. We are told how we could live the
abundant life if we would do this or do that. We are told that we have a right to the best that
God has to offer. There are so many formulas taught today that one would think that there is
no reason at all why Christians should suffer lack. There is so much enthusiasm and hope
that we would think that Christians have a magic formula for obtaining wealth from God.
However, we don’t seem to experience what they tell us from the pulpit. Why?
Is lack an indication of a lack of faith or perhaps a secret sin? Are your troubles the
manifestation of God’s wrath on your life. Do you strive to live the abundant life according
to a world system? Are you seeking abundant life? That question alone begs the problem.
You should be seeking something else, shouldn’t you? Anyway, there are many of us who
pursue the “good life” and desire nice things. However, are those what the Bible refers to as
abundant living or the abundant life?
WHAT IS
LIFE?
 The animated state of humans, animals, and plants. It
is the time between birth and death. This refers to
physical existence.
 The New Testament extended this physical existence
to include a spiritual component. It refers many times
to the spiritual life that results from a relationship
with God (through salvation).
 Life could also refer to the concept of eternal life, which is the
eternal fellowship or union between God and his people.
 John 17:3 - Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the
only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.).
 Romans 6:21-23 - 21 What benefit did you reap at that time from the
things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death! 22 But
now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of
God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal
life. 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal
life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
 John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that He gave His
only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should
not perish but have everlasting life.
 John 1:4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of
men.
WHAT IS ABUNDANT?

The word “abundant” in the New Testament means “exceedingly,

very highly, beyond measure, more, a quantity so abundant as to
be considerably more than what one would expect or anticipate.”
 I Corinthians 2:9 “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no
mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who
love him.”
John 10:10
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and
to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and
that they may have it more abundantly.
Matthew 6:19-21 - 19’Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on
earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in
and steal; 20but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven,
where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not
break in and steal. 21For where your treasure is, there your
heart will be also.
Matthew 19:21 - 21Jesus said to him, ‘If you want to be
perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and
you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.’
James 2:14-17 - 14What does it profit, my brethren, if someone
says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him?
15If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food,
16and one of you says to them, depart in peace, be warmed and
filled? But you do not give them the things which are needed for
the body, what does it profit? 17Thus also faith by itself, if it does
not have works, is dead.
WHAT IS ABUNDANT
LIFE?
1. Abundant life does not mean wealth, safety,
status or material
Matthew 8:20
"And Jesus said to him, ‘Foxes have holes, and
birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has
nowhere to lay his head.”"
Matthew 6:25-32 - 25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or
about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at
the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds
them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to
your life[a? 28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not
labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If
that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will
he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What
shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly
Father knows that you need them.
Philippians 4:19 - 19 And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of
his glory in Christ Jesus.

Psalm 103:2-5 - 2Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: 3Who
forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases,
4
Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and
tender mercies, 5 Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is
renewed like the eagle’s
2. Abundant life also means eternal life, the life a Christian is truly concerned with, is not
determined by duration but by a relationship with God.
John 17:3
“Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you
have sent”
1 John 5:11-13
11
And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who
has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13 These things I have
written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal
life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.
3. A Christian’s life revolves around “growing in the grace and
knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ”
2 Peter 3:18 - But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.
1 Corinthians 13:12 - "For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror;
then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know
fully, even as I am fully known."
LIVING THE ABUNDANT LIFE

 God wants to bless you

 The blessings cannot preempt the blesser
 More than anything else God wants you to want Him
 God will give you gifts (things that you do not deserve
and that you did nothing to get)
 God will reward your work
What is LIFE?
(Ecclesiastes 2:24) — {24}Nothing is better for a man than that he should
eat and drink, and that his soul should enjoy good in his labor. This also, I
saw, was from the hand of God.
(Ecclesiastes 3:12-13) — {12}I know that nothing is better for them than to
rejoice, and to do good in their lives, {13}and also that every man should
eat and drink and enjoy the good of all his labor? it is the gift of God.
Ecclesiastes 8:15 — {15}So I commended enjoyment,
because a man has nothing better under the sun than to eat,
drink, and be merry; for this will remain with him in his
labor all the days of his life which God gives him under
the sun.
(1 John 5:14-15) — {14}Now this is the confidence that we
have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He
hears us. {15}And if we know that He hears us, whatever we
ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of
Him.
TRUE PROSPERITY IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD

 True prosperity is not in riches and glory

 True prosperity is linked to our relationship with God, which
mandates our union with Christ.
 We are blessed according to what God says blessed is
 Prosperity also corresponds with your accomplishment of
God’s will for your life or for any particular task. You
prosper as you advance according to God’s will.
Matthew 23:11-12) — {11}But he who is greatest among you
shall be your servant. {12}And whoever exalts himself will be
humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.
Matthew 5:3-12
3 Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
5
Blessed are the meek, for they will inheritWhat is LIFE?
the earth.
6
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
7
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
8
Blessed are the pure in heart. for they will see God.
9
Blessed are the peace makers, for they will be called children of God.
10
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11
“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil
against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven,
for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
MAKE A CHANGE
Romans 12:2-3
{2}And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed
by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that
good and acceptable and perfect will of God. {3}For I say,
through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you,
not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think but to
think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith
Things That You Can Start To Do Today

1. Spend quality time with the Lord and talk to him as a friend. You can’t see him
or hear him physically, but don’t let that hinder you from spending planned
quality time with Him.
2. Read and study the Bible
3. Be a critical listener and reader when it comes to what others tell you about
the Lord and His Kingdom
4. Practice what you have learned (be a disciple of Christ)
5. Have abundance mentality
6. Be grateful for what you have
7. Smile
8. Start your days right
9. Prepare yourself for opportunities
 Know your strengths
 Develop your skills
 Be observant
10. Make the most out of every opportunity
11. Build friendships along the way
12. Build upon what you’ve built
13. Enjoy your life
CONCLUSION

The abundant life is something that all Christians can experience. However, we
can only experience the abundant life if we line ourselves up with God’s will and
do it. The abundant life is not in riches and material things. It is founded upon our
fellowship with the Father through Jesus Christ. The abundant life is ultimately the
accomplishing of the things that God has ordained us to. It is also found in terms
of sanctification as we grow into the image of Christ and in our Christian walk. We
can experience more and more of God if we would simply join ourselves with him
and not expect him to yield to our plans and desires.
We are hindered living the abundant life because we listen to so many false
teachings that take us away from the way of God. We have a laundry list of
teachings that we try to live by that have nothing to do with the will of God or the
Christian faith. We need to stand up and just say no to those false teachings so
that we would be free to do and be all that God wants of us.
Make the change today. Seek the Lord. Study your Bible. Spend time in fellowship
with the Lord and begin living the abundant life. Amen.
RECOMMENDATION
Living an abundant life is everyone’s dream. We all want to live a prosperous life
where we can be happy and fulfilled. While it may seem difficult for some people, in
reality we already have what it takes to live an abundant life. As the quote above
says, the most important ingredient for abundance is attitude and your attitude is
something you can control.
