Why You Need a First-Aid Kit:

• First aid is important for a number of situations that don't require a trip to the
hospital or emergency room. These situations include minor falls, bee stings,
burns, allergic reactions, and other common accidents. A first aid kit is
helpful for these types of situations.
Essential First-Aid Kit Items:

Wound Care:
1. Sterile gauze pads (various sizes):

- Purpose: Apply pressure to bleeding wounds and absorb fluids.

- How to Use: Apply gentle pressure directly to the wound until bleeding stops.
Secure with bandage or tape.

- Caution: Do not remove gauze pad stuck to a wound, let medical

professionals handle it.
2. Adhesive bandages (various sizes)

- Purpose: Cover minor cuts, scrapes, and blisters to prevent infection.

- How to Use: Clean the wound with antiseptic wipes, dry the area, and apply the bandage
without touching the sterile pad.

3. Non-adhesive dressings (various sizes)

- Purpose: Pad wounds without sticking to the wound bed, ideal for larger or more serious injuries.

- How to Use: Apply sterile dressing directly to the wound, secure with gauze and tape.

- Caution: For serious wounds, seek medical attention immediately.

4. Triangular bandage

- Purpose: Provides support and pressure for sprains, strains, and slings.

- How to Use: Requires some practice to create slings or wraps. Refer to a first-aid manual for
proper techniques.

5. Crepe bandage (various widths)

- Purpose: Provides support and compression for sprains, strains, and dressings.

- How to Use: Wrap firmly, but not too tight, around the injured area, starting from the farthest
point and working towards the heart.
6. Adhesive cloth tape

- Purpose: Secures bandages and dressings.

- How to Use: Secure dressings firmly in place without restricting blood flow.

7. Antiseptic wipes:

- Purpose: Clean wounds and prevent infection.

- How to Use: Clean the wound gently with a wipe, moving from the center outwards. Discard
the used wipe and use a new one for further cleaning.
8. Antibiotic ointment

- Purpose: Helps prevent infection in minor wounds.

- How to Use: Apply a thin layer of ointment to the cleaned wound after bleeding has
stopped.

- Caution: Follow dosage instructions and avoid using on allergic individuals.

Other Essential Items:
1. Non-latex gloves

- Purpose: Protects you from contact with bodily fluids.

- How to Use: Put on gloves before treating any wound and discard them after use.

2. Scissors and tweezers

- Purpose: For removing splinters, cutting bandages, or trimming dressing materials.

- How to Use: Use sharp scissors to cut bandages and tweezers to remove splinters with a gentle
touch.

- Caution: Sterilize the tips of scissors and tweezers with rubbing alcohol before and after each use.
3. Instant cold compress

- Purpose: Reduces swelling and pain from sprains, strains, and minor injuries.

- How to Use: Activate the cold compress according to package instructions and apply it to the
injured area for 15-20 minute intervals with a cloth barrier between the skin and compress to
prevent cold injury.

4. Eye dressings (sterile)

- Purpose: Pads and protects injured eyes.

- How to Use: Apply sterile eye dressing gently over the closed eye. Seek medical attention
immediately for any eye injuries.
5. CPR mask (with one-way valve)

- Purpose: Provides a barrier for performing CPR.

- How to Use: Use only during CPR to avoid direct contact with the patient's mouth.
Follow CPR guidelines for proper use.

6. Emergency blanket

- Purpose: Helps retain body heat in case of hypothermia.

- How to Use: Wrap the emergency blanket around the person to help insulate them.
Optional but Useful Items:

1. Pain relievers (paracetamol or ibuprofen)

- Purpose: For pain management (refer to recommended dosage and age restrictions).

- Caution: Not suitable for all injuries and consult a doctor for pre-existing medical
conditions.

2. Antihistamine tablets or cream

- Purpose: Alleviates allergic reactions and insect bites/stings.

- Caution: Follow dosage instructions and consult a doctor for severe allergic reactions.
3. Thermometer

- Purpose: Measures body temperature.

- How to Use: Follow the instructions specific to your thermometer type.

4. First-aid manual

- Purpose: Provides instructions on how to handle common injuries and emergencies.

- Use: Refer to the manual for detailed instructions on proper first-aid techniques.
Remember:

 Check and restock your first-aid kit regularly, especially after use or if
expiration dates approach.
