IN YOUR WRITING.
3 KINDS OF PARALLELISM
Word Parallelism: “John enjoys hiking, fishing, and swimming.” In this
sentence, “hiking,” “fishing,” and “swimming” are all gerunds (verbs acting
as nouns), thus creating a parallel structure.
• Phrase Parallelism
Phrase Parallelism: “He is as cunning as a fox, as slippery as an eel, and as
stubborn as a mule.” Here, the phrases “as cunning as a fox,” “as slippery as
an eel,” and “as stubborn as a mule” are parallel.
• Clause parallelism
Clause Parallelism: “When I sing, I feel joyful; when I dance, I feel free.” The
clauses “when I sing, I feel joyful” and “when I dance, I feel free” are parallel.
2 TYPES OF CONJUNCTIONS
• Coordinating conjunctions
Think of coordinating conjunctions as workhorses. They are simple words,
like for, and, nor, but, or, so, yet (FANBOYS), that efficiently connect
elements within a sentence. They establish a balanced relationship between
the things they join

• Correlative Conjunctions
Correlative conjunctions, on the other hand, are like tag teams. They come
in pairs (either/or, neither/nor, both/and, not only/but also, as/as,
whether/or), working together to introduce contrasting or comparative
