DATA MANAGEMENT AND REALITY

CAPTURE IN BIM

ADAPT

PRESENTOR: HALIDH AHAMED

INTRODUCTION:

• A process that involves creating and

managing digital representations of
physical and functional
characteristics of buildings
and infrastructure in different phases
• Scan-to-BIM is an extension of BIM
that involves capturing existing
building conditions using laser
scanning technology and converting
the data into a BIM model.
Data Management in BIM:
Building Information Modeling (BIM) requires effective data management to ensure accuracy and
efficiency throughout the project lifecycle.

Centralized Data Storage:

All BIM data should be stored in a centralized location,
allowing for easy access and collaboration among team
members.

Data Standardization:
Standardizing data formats and naming conventions is
crucial for effective data management in BIM. This
ensures consistency and accuracy across all project data.

Data Visualization:
Effective data visualization is key to understanding and
utilizing BIM data. This includes 3D models, charts, and
graphs to help communicate complex information.
DATA CAPTURE METHODS:

• Laser scanning: uses a laser to create a point

cloud of the environment, which can be used
to create a 3D model.
• Photogrammetry: uses photographs to create
a 3D model. Multiple photos are taken from
different angles and processed to create a 3D
model.
• LiDAR: uses a pulsed laser to measure
distances and create a 3D model. LiDAR can
be used for both indoor and outdoor
environments.
• Structured Light Scanning: uses a projector
to project a pattern onto the environment and
a camera to capture the distorted pattern. The
pattern is used to create a 3D model.

Scan-to-BIM:
The Scan-to-BIM process involves capturing physical spaces and converting them into digital
models. This workflow is commonly used in architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC)
projects to ensure accurate documentation and efficient project management.

Autodesk ReCap (Reality Capture) :
Software solution developed by Autodesk that enables professionals to capture and integrate real-world data into
their design and engineering workflows. It is commonly used in the fields of architecture, engineering,
construction, and manufacturing. Here are key features and aspects of Autodesk
