WHY LEARN INSTRUMENT FLYING

 Essential skill set –that can potentially save

your life

 Basic foundation of instrument flying skills

 Flight test item PPL CPL

ANCILLARY EQUIPMENT
CONTROL & PERFORMANCE EQUIPMENT
SCANNING TECHNIQUES
FULL PANEL- STRAIGHT & LEVEL
FULL PANEL- CLIMBS
FULL PANEL- DESCENDS

 Basic principle remains the same – Power Attitude Trim

 Ask yourself the question -

• What speed do I want ?

• What rate of descent do I want ?

 Good Rule of Thumb to use is 100RPM =100FPM

FULL PANEL-TURNS
PARTIAL PANEL -SCANNING
PARTIAL PANEL –STRAIGHT & LEVEL
PARTIAL PANEL -CLIMBS
PARTIAL PANEL -DESCENDS
 ENTRY- POWER ATTITUDE TRIM

 Airspeed indicator in this case is used to give pitch information.

 Use small pitch corrections to adjust for the desired airspeed

 100ft before the target altitude start to level off

 Adjust the pitch to stop the altimeter from descending further

 Add cruise power

PARTIAL PANEL -TURNS
 Main instruments are turn coordinator, a timer and the compass and prompt scan of
the airspeed indicator.

 Use the marking on the turn coordinator to enter a rate one turn

 3degrees/second, 360 degrees in 2min, 180 degrees in 1min, 90 degrees in 30seconds

 To roll into a desired heading in particular use the compass to establish the present
heading and then find the difference between the desired heading by subtracting

 Divide the answer by 3 , that should give you the time in seconds to use while turning
to a desired heading.
UNUSUAL ATTITUDES-RECOGNITION
UNUSUAL ATTITUDES-RECOVERY

 RECOGNIZE & ANNOUNCE – NOSE HIGH

 FULL POWER

 LEVEL THE WINGS IF NEEDED

 PITCH THE NOSE DOWN

 LET THE LOST AIRSPEED BUILD UP BACK AGAIN

UNUSUAL ATTITUDES-RECOGNITION
UNUSUAL ATTITUDES-RECOVERY

 RECOGNITION & ANNOUNCING

 POWER IDLE

 WINGS LEVEL

 EASE OUT OF THE DIVE

 CLIMB BACK TO SAFE ALTITUDE

SAFETY ASPECTS
 Do not fixate on one instrument

 Before making turns to any direction under the hood , always call out
- "Am I Clear"

 Gentle movements with the controls –avoid overcontrolling the

airplane.

 Do not exceed any safety margins during the exercises

 Prevent any excessive loss of altitude

 Transfer of controls -if needed
