adulthood and involves the
psychological experiences during
this period.
Adolescence is the teenage
years from thirteen to eighteen
years old.

people undergo a lot of changes as
they transition from childhood into
young adulthood.

THREE STAGES
OF
DEVELOPMENT
1. Early Adolescence (Ages 10-14)
Adolescents experience the
early stages of puberty in this
development phase. Both male
and female experience major
physical growth and intensified
sexual interest.
2. Middle Adolescence (Ages 15-17)
During the middle adolescence
stage, puberty is completed for
males and females. Physical growth
slows for females but continues for
males. Adolescence in this stage
continue to experience a growing
capacity for abstract thought.

development experience numerous
social and emotional changes

involvement and an increased
drive for independence.
3. Late Adolescence (Ages 18-24)

Adolescents in the late

adolescence/young adulthood
phase typically experience fewer
physical developments and more
cognitive developments.

the future and gain a
firm sense of identity.

ideas or questions), the ability to
consider many points of view according
to varying criteria (compare or debate
ideas or opinions), and the ability to
think about the process of thinking.
PYSCHOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT
Adolescent maturation is a personal
phase of development where an
individual establishes their own beliefs,
values and what they want to
accomplish in life.
The adolescent also begins to
take on more control of educational
and vocational pursuits and
advantages. It is during this time
that adolescents’ self-dependence
and a sense of responsibility
become apparent , along with their
quest to contribute to society and
find their place in it.
SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT
Adolescents are looking for a way to
express their spiritual nature and
organizations such as churches and
faith-based teen clubs can attract them
if they offer lively discussions and
activities that encourage youth to
explore faith in a relevant way.
