EXAMPLE #1:

What is the weight of a 66kg man at standard condition? Express your answer in kgf
and Newton.
EXAMPLE #2:

The weight of an object is 50lb. What is the mass at standard condition? Express your
answer in lbm and slugs.
EXAMPLE #3:

What is the specific weight of water at standard condition?

EXAMPLE #4:

Two liquids of different densities (are poured together into a 100-L tank, filling it. If
the resulting density of mixture is 800kg/. Find the respective quantities of liquids
used. Also, find the weight of the mixture. Local gravity = 9.675 m/
EXAMPLE #5:

A vertical column of water will be supported to what height (in meters and in feet) by
standard atmospheric pressure?

EXAMPLE #6:

The pressure of a boiler is 9.5 kg/. The barometric pressure is 768 mmHg. Find the
absolute pressure in kPa absolute.
EXAMPLE #7:

A pressure gauge registers 40 psig in a region where the barometric is 14.5 psi. Find
the absolute pressure in psi and in kPa.
CONSERVATION OF MASS

EXAMPLE #8:

Two gaseous streams enter a combining tube and leave as a single mixture. These
data apply at the entrance section:

For one gas:

Other gas:

At the exit:

Find a) Speed at section 2; and

b) the flow and area at the section
SUPPLEMENTARY PROBLEMS:
1. The mass of a fluid system is 0.311 slug, its density is 30 lbm/and g is 31.90 ft/.
Find a) the specific volume, b) the specific weight, and c) the total volume.

2. Convert the following readings of pressure to kPa absolute, assuming that

barometer reads 760mmHg. a) 90 cmHg, b) 40cmHg vacuum, c)100 psia, d) 8 inHg
vacuum, and e) 76 inHg gage.

3. A water manometer for measurement of pressure of a pipeline containing oil with

specific gravity of a 0.9 is shown with readings indicated below. The density of water
is 1000 kg/ for the manometer. Calculate the pressure at the centerline of the pipe.
Barometric pressure is 100 kPa and local acceleration is standard. Express your
answer in kPa.
