Operating Systems
Definition
 An Operating System is the most
important software without which
no computer system can work.
 OS works as an interface between
the user and hardware.
 OS helps to communicate with the
computer without knowing how to
speak the computer’s language.
 It is impossible for the user to use
any computer or mobile device
without having an OS.
 An OS performs basic tasks, such
as recognizing input from the
keyboard, sending output to the
display screen, keeping track of
files and directories on the disk,
and controlling peripheral devices
such as printers.

 Hardware is nothing but a machine which requires instruction to


work

 OS is the software which manages and controls all the resources of


the computer
