THE

PROMISE
The Holy Spirit

Session 7
On one occasion, while He was eating with
them, He gave them His command: “Do not
leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift of the
Father promised, which you have heard me
speak about. For John baptized with water,
but in a few days you will be baptized with
the Holy Spirit”
Acts 1:4-5
WE ALL LIKE PROMISES,
ESPECIALLY THOSE THAT PEOPLE
KEEP:
• Political campaigns
• A parent to their child
• People in love
BUT GOD ALWAYS

KEEPS HIS
PROMISES
WHAT PROMISE
DOES GOD HAVE
FOR YOU TODAY?
I was on Earth for 30 years, but it was best
for you that I went to be with the Father,
He promised to give you the best gift. And
this is the promise I make to you: I promise
to send you the One who will help you in
everything you need, the One who will
comfort you when you feel sad or in
distress.
I promise to send you the Spirit of truth,
who will guide you into all truth. He will
reveal My secrets to you, and will show you
what is yet to come.
I promise that I will give Him to you if you
ask for Him. When you receive Him, your
joy will be complete.
- Jesus
Who is the HOLY SPIRIT?

1. HE IS A PERSON
During Jesus’ baptism,
the Holy Spirit descended
as a dove and alighted on
him, because the Holy
Spirit is a person.
Who is the HOLY SPIRIT?
2. HE IS OUR COMFORTER
“But I tell you the truth, it
is to your advantage that I
go away; for if I do not go
away, the Helper will not
come to you; but if I go, I
will send Him to you.”

John 16:7
Who is the HOLY SPIRIT?
3. THE HOLY SPIRIT IS THE
PROMISE OF GOD FOR EVERY
BELIEVER.
I am going to send you
what my Father has
promised; but stay in the
city until you have been
clothe in power from on
high.
Luke 24:49
Who is the HOLY SPIRIT?

3. HE IS OUR GUIDE
“I am the WAY, the
TRUTH and the LIFE.
No one comes to the
Father except through
Me.”

John 14:7
“But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes,
He will guide you into all the truth. He
will not speak on his own; he will speak
only what he hears, and he will tell you
what is yet to come.”

John 16:13
Who is the HOLY SPIRIT?

4. HE IS THE ONE WHO GLORIFIES JESU

“He will glorify me because it is from me
that he will receive what he will make
known to you. All that belongs to the
Father is mine. That is why I said the
Spirit will receive from me what He will
make known to you.”

John 16:14-15
Who is the HOLY SPIRIT?
5. THE FULLNESS OF GOD IS FOUND IN
HIM
“The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him-
the Spirit of wisdom and of
understanding, the Spirit of counsel and
of might, the Spirit of the knowledge
and fear of the Lord.

Isaiah 11:2
Who is the HOLY SPIRIT?
6. HE MAKES US BORN
AGAIN
“Very truly I tell you,
no one can see the
kingdom of God unless
they are born again.”

John 3:3
Who is the HOLY SPIRIT?

7. HE REVEALS DIVINE SECRETS

“During the night the mystery was revealed to Daniel in a
vision. Then Daniel praised the God of heaven and said,
“Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and
power are His. He changes times and seasons; He deposes
kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and
knowledge to the discerning. He reveals deep and hidden
things; He knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with
Him.
John 3:3
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN
HIS PRESENCE
MANIFEST ON US?
1. WE FEEL HIS
LOVE
Psalms 63:2-3 (NIV)
I have seen you in the sanctuary
and beheld your power and your
glory.
Because your love is better than
life, my lips will glorify you.
Romans 5:5 (NIV)
And hope does not disappoint us,
because God has poured out His love
into our hearts by the Holy Spirit,
whom he has given us.
2. WE
EXPERIENCE JOY
Psalms 16:11 (NIV)
You have made known to me the
path of life; you will fill me with
joy in your presence, with eternal
pleasures at your right hand.
3. WE RECEIVE
PEACE AND REST
Matthew 11:28-29 (NIV)
"Come to me, all you who are weary and
burdened, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from
me, for I am gentle and humble in heart,
and you will find rest for your souls.
4. WE EXPERIENCE
INNER HEALING
Isaiah 61:1 (NKJV)
"The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me,
Because the Lord has anointed Me To
preach good tidings to the poor; He has
sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To
proclaim liberty to the captives, And the
opening of the prison to those who are
bound;
5. WE EXPERIENCE
PHYSICAL HEALING
Isaiah 61:1 (NIV)
The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on
me, because the LORD has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor. He has
sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to
proclaim freedom for the captives...
6. WE EXPERIENCE
DELIVERANCE
Isaiah 61:1 (NIV)
The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,
because the LORD has anointed me to
preach good news to the poor. He has sent
me to bind up the brokenhearted, to
proclaim freedom for the captives and
release from darkness for the prisoners...
7. WE EXPERIENCE
TRANSFORMATION
1 Samuel 10:6 (NIV)
The Spirit of the LORD will come
upon you in power, and you will
prophesy with them; and you will be
changed into a different person.
2 Corinthians 3:17-18 (NIV)
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the
Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
And we, who with unveiled faces all
reflect the Lord's glory, are being
transformed into his likeness with ever-
increasing glory, which comes from the
Lord, who is the Spirit.
8. WE RECEIVE PROPHETIC
REVELATIONS
Acts 2:17 (NIV)
"'In the last days, God says, I will pour
out my Spirit on all people. Your sons
and daughters will prophesy, your
young men will see visions, your old
men will dream dreams.
9. WE RECEIVE
SPIRITUAL GIFTS
Acts 2:4 (NIV)
All of them were filled with the
Holy Spirit and began to speak
in other tongues as the Spirit
enabled them.
Acts 19:6-7 (NIV)
When Paul placed his hands on
them, the Holy Spirit came on them,
and they spoke in tongues and
prophesied.
10. WE RECEIVE
EMPOWERMENT
Acts 1:8 (NIV)
But you will receive power when the Holy
Spirit comes on you; and you will be my
witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea
and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
UNUSUAL MANIFESTATIONS
WHEN HE COMES
I. FALLING
Acts 9:3-4 (NIV)
As he neared Damascus on his journey,
suddenly a light from heaven flashed
around him.
He fell to the ground and heard a voice
say to him, "Saul, Saul, why do you
persecute me?"
II. SHAKING
Psalms 114:7 (NIV)
Tremble, O earth, at the
presence of the Lord, at the
presence of the God of Jacob...
III. WEEPING
Nehemiah 8:9 (NIV)
Then Nehemiah the governor, Ezra the
priest and scribe, and the Levites who were
instructing the people said to them all, "This
day is sacred to the LORD your God. Do not
mourn or weep." For all the people had been
weeping as they listened to the words of the
Law.
IV. LAUGHING
Psalms 126:1-3 (NIV)
When the LORD brought back the captives to
Zion, we were like men who dreamed.
Our mouths were filled with laughter, our
tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said
among the nations, "The LORD has done great
things for them."
The LORD has done great things for us, and we
are filled with joy.
V. DRUNKENNESS
Jeremiah 23:9 (NIV)
Concerning the prophets: My heart is
broken within me; all my bones tremble. I
am like a drunken man, like a man
overcome by wine, because of the LORD
and his holy words.
